So I suppose the absolute worst kind of music for me would be improvised country blues, if there is such a thing (especially if sung by a barbershop quartet).

Neil Diamond's - I am...I said - starts off serious and promising, but then he says "I am ...I said."     :/  :(

Heh  :D  I'm reminded of Newtons third law of motion. I love that song! Yes, really!

Virtually anything by Michael Jackson or Elvis Presley will have me yawning and fidgeting.

There are worse Neil Diamond songs than that, in my opinion - those after he lost his melodic talent (which he did have, even if the results aren't to your liking). Example: "For ever in Blue Jeans".

Does Heartlight fit into that category  :)

Milamber; - I'm OK with Heartlight. The lyrics are nice - sentimental but congruent :)

Nightspore; -  with "I am...I said" it's those trite, melodramatic (macho) lyrics which turn ME off. Maybe if he'd replaced those four words with something else it might have been OK.

"I am I Said" always reminds me of Descartes. :) As for ND in general, my response varies from "quite like" to indifference. I think "Crunchy Granolla Suite" was his high point.

Don

Did he write The Monkees songs?

Your idea could work. Switching 'Monkees' for a one syllable word though; -

I wrote THE song
To no one there
And no one heard it
Not even the chair...

Moving into Barry Manilow now - "I wrote the songs." :/

Some of them. "I'm a believer" was written by Neil Diamond.

I am not exactly a fan but there are some of his songs I really like such as "I am, I said", "Play me", "Brooklyn Roads" and "Cracklin' Rosie"

And of course there's "You Don't Bring Me Flowers", which is a segue to Barbra Streisand- someone whose material leaves me completely cold. I cannot for the life of me understand how anyone could like her type of music.

To try and move away from my admission that I quite like some Neil Diamond cheesieness, I've been trying to think what songs I feel should be on this thread. Not that many to be honest, most songs - even ones I really hate -  I can see might have some merit.

An exception is Mr Blobby. I can't for the life of me think of anything positive to say about that!

For me there's also a 'creep me out' category. I'm not saying these songs are real bad as such - they're probably considered well constructed songs. But for some reason and I was a funny kid, from an early age I've found them creepy and cringy - a combination of the lyrics, tone and vocals: -

If I had a Hammer - Trini Lopez
Yellow Submarine - The Beatles
Eleanor Rigby - The Beatles
Morning has Broken - Cat Stevens
Scarborough Fair - Simon and Garfunkel
I'd like to teach the World to Siing - New Seekers
The Laughing Gnome - David Bowie
Tie me Kangaroo Down Sport - Rolf Harris
Gypsies Tramps and Thieves - Cher
American Pie - Don Mclean....

Yes, "American Pie" is cringy; it has a kind of smug prentiousness about it. I think Monty Python did a version of "If I had a hammer" called "If I had a hamster". I don't know "The Laughing Gnome". The most cringy song in my opinion is Elton John's "Daniel". Embarrassment City, Arizona!
