Fine, rosko, It actually seems very overdone now that it has been broadcast over the whole planet. I'll refer to it in private as the Pornhipe, but I think, for everyone's sanity, including mine, as of March 2, 2001, anyone's time, Tubular Forums will be a Pornhipe-free zone.

Topics containing the p-word can still contain them IF they were posted before the watershed.

If you want to use this word (which I sincerely doubt) you have a few hours left to do so.

Anyone using this after the watershed is eligible for punishment decided by rosko.

The person who gave Pornhipe to the world (but not the creator)

PS. More on the conversion maybe tomorrow.

No problems, rosko. The [PH]orn[hp]ipe is no more.

Actually, this depends on the time zone - people in the US still have 16 hours left wink

I hope not.

We did it!

We've converted someone, or at least got them interested in Mike Oldfield.

Some quick results (I made a questionnaire for the person to complete after hearing the compilation):

Best Tracks:
  • Tubular Bells MC section
  • Outcast
  • Far Above the Clouds
  • Doges' Palace
  • Sailor's Hornpipe (I resisted wink)

Worst Tracks:
  • Thunderstorm
  • Orchestral Piltdown Man
  • Taurus II excerpt
  • Family Man
  • Crises excerpt
  • Holy
  • See the Light
  • Heaven's Open

The rest were all in between.

In addition, the person said that the compilation did encourage them to find out more about MO.

Hi there,

I have a great experience brainwashing girls with MO.

The receipe is clear:

It's not safe to start with any of Mike's early works, that could scare them away.

Mike's albums in the 90s are pretty easy to listen to (except HO and Amarok) so it's a good place to start. Most ppl won't concentrate 100% on the music once they've got it so a few albums with nice tunes could really hook 'em on. Amarok w/brass stabs etc. is NOT recommendable.

Start with TSODE, then TB2 (throw in Voyager if she's a 'romantic' girl (who isn't?)).

Then you can introduce her to TB3 or TMB.

After that it's only one way to go; Tubular Bells. OK, she's now familiar with the not-so-pleasing-to-the-ears-stuff. If she likes TB, it's Amarok-time; the ultimate MO-test.

If she likes that one as well you give her the Mike Oldfield discography and tell her: "It's shopping-time, honey!"

Good luck!
