@ Olivier: "Say no more" etc. was not an allusion to the band's name, but to a Monty Python sketch. :)

Ok I guess my last One was a bit too obscure.
I thought all music fans would recognize Spinal Tap :/
Try this, a bit more commercial Mystery 8 :D

Its prize time as well.

A member here recently sent me a rare  Art in Heaven (Studio Version) promo? (Thanks B.T.W).

Sounds freaking awesome.

Guess right and Win :D

On a cross thread promotion here The winner of the Years T.A Awards will also receive this Wav file.

later edit Actually for a prize like this, guess this One as well Mystery 9

2 Clues 1 for each   Andy Johns and a Quarterstaff you could fit in you ear .

Art In Heaven / Berlin 2000 / Thou Art In Heaven
Mike wrote this 12-minute track to accompany Art In Heaven's lightshow at the climax of the Millennium Bell concert in Berlin. It opens with In The Beginning (from The Songs Of Distant Earth), and ends with an extract from Beethoven's 9th Symphony. A studio version is available on a very limited promo CD - this version opens with a bass note lasting over a minute, just as the live version did, which could indicate that this CD was made as a demo for the live band to work from.

@ Milamber: very good about Metallica, but I practically led you there with a leash. About your latest mysteries, well, I have no idea. I know the name Andy Johns only because he produced a Joe Satriani album (and number 8 is very obviously noT Joe Satriani), I'm not familiar with anything else he's done. Number 9 sounds a little bit like recent Kraftwerk stuff, but it can't be them because it's got strings... Isn't a quarterstaff a long pole you use for fighting? Sounds like a videogaming thing - maybe World of Warcraft? :)

I guess Spinal Tap's "fame" never extended beyond English-speaking countries. Aslo, I think that there are more people who know the band's name and the mockumentary film, than people who know their actual music.

I just checked...Mystery 9 scrap that.
The theme from a 80's TV show, only screened in the U.K and Oz.
The show was called Monkey.

Mystery 8 is from 1991 and reached the top Billboard 100.

@ milamber: the main thing Johns did in 1991 is Van Halen's F.U.C.K. album, which I have. But Mystery 8 doesn't sound like it's from there... indeed, it sounds like Van Halen just as much as my latest clip sounds like Metallica. :D

EDIT While thanking iTunes for saving me the heavy and cumbersome job of raising my fat ass from my armchair to pull the CD off the shelf :D, I give the answer to Mystery 8: "Right Now" by Van Halen. It is indeed the least Van Halen-sounding track from that album. :)

By the way, I already have the studio version of AiH. A member of this board (maybe the same one?) very kindly sent it to me.

And now...

Mystery 9

I'm not giving any clues on this because it's really too easy. However, I will send the whole album that this is taken from (as mp3) to whoever guesses first. :)

@ Milamber: sure it's all Mike O.? The first bit sounds almost like Duane Eddy. However, I think "Shine" is in there. And "Rite of Man". The others, no idea. "Afghan" maybe? I don't remember ALL of Mike's B-sides in all of their details!! :D

Oh, by the way: Mystery 9 was a piano rendition of "You'll Never Walk Alone", from the Viva Elvis album. It comes right before "Suspicious Minds" on the album, and you can hear the strings from SM at the very end of the clip.

As far as I hear:
Music for the Video Wall
Crises live from Wembley 1983
Crime of Passion
In the Pool
The last one is tricky, but I think it must be a Punkadiddle live version from 1981, maybe Montreux or Siegen. :)
