My post yesterday, done on the mobile and on the move, took an ungodly amount of time to finish (so easy to lose everything with the exit browser key, and had to paste it all from my Notes in four chunks - three times...) but it gave me the perfect angle on another little bit of Tubular Net history. So it's 97 now! Yay!!! But how?! And why?!!!
Well, as near as I could tell, noone was posting around 08:22, Tubular Net Time, but 'twas a busy-ish day for posts. The overall visits tally stayed high, as it has done recently - we hit a relative high on the announcement of Incantations' release date, but the variables of the planet's postal services meant there was no single day where everone listened in delight/horror to part 4. Still busy, mind, and if we'd returned back to a more typical tens and twenties by a couple of weeks ago, we seemed to be cruising along in the thrirties fairly consistently until yesterday.
The rest of this thread is informative and illuminating. When all hopes fail, turn to Korgscrew

I put up two news items on that day, one about the Night Of The Proms DVD release and one about the sale of one of Mike's motorbikes. Neither were of course huge stories, but their appearance might have contributed to the large number of visitors (a lot of people do seem to like to come and browse through the comments on the news stories even though they're not forum members). There was indeed also the event in Berlin, so people may well have come looking for reports on that.
There are generally quite a lot of guests browsing round here at the moment - there are 20 online as I write this, plus 7 members, which no doubt helps contribute to those figures.
However, we are also getting a huge amount of registration requests from spam robots at the moment. I sifted through 50 or so the other day (I haven't looked to see how many are there today...), which wouldn't have been more than a day's worth. They would show up as guests while they're accessing the forum and may be what's contributing to the high figures. |
I've said before that I believe I witnessed an attack once. At a usually sedate time of around 11pm (TNT) there were 30+ visitors recorded; the vast majority of them hanging about in Tubular Net Updates, when, begging Olivier's pardon, there hadn't been any updates for ages. I hope against hope that there were nearly 100 of Mike's English-speaking fans who were satisfying their need to find things out; to celebrate; to denigrate... But heaven help us, was it all unthinking spam robots...?
What is it about September anyway? 2007 starting this thread, and ever since I joined, September 29th last year and its 85 has been up there. Do all the spam robots finsih their summer holidays about now? Let's look at the evidence! Oh, and Ugo? Time to prove your fondness for the rest of The Mix. Abase yourself before our mechanised overlords!!!
