Interviews, AFAIK, no. But I have a rendition of "Platinum" (the song) played live in Hannover in 1981 [the same one featured on The Complete, but unedited... :)]. At start, Mike says: "We're now gonna play "Platchinom". :D :D

Great to see this topic being discussed again, but would still like to see the vote for Platinum go higher. I can't hear guitar or kichar at all, but I can go with Platchinum, perhaps a slight lisp or accent or Guiness or two there. And I don't think it has been speeded up at all, it's at normal speed, just said quickly. It is very obviously a three syllable word, NOT GUITAR, sorry Ugo. Is that slowed down sound bite still available, I have never heard it.

Oh, how could I forgot the concerts! :)

Yes but the third syllable could also be heard as an echo of the second one...

Thanks Chaese, I actually went back and reread every post including my original thread and I think the provided sound bites are what is confusing the issue. On my very old cd, it sounds obvious to me that the word is Platinum, not sped us as I said earlier trying to explain the 'ch' sound in the middle, but a spoken whispered word, definitely Mike. In Eetons sound bite, not slowed down, it sounds more like Plat__uhum to me, and in the slowed down version it sounds more like Platchinm. But I still definitely hear the Plat at the start. What I find interesting is that even Ugo who has been adament that the word was 'guitar' right from the start, now says that the slowed down sound bite sounds like 'Platchinm'. And Ugo, what did all that mean when you said, "the vocoded word that the staccato chords in the very beginning of Platinum are played on is indeed "Platinum"". This is a spoken whispered word exactly 5 1/2 seconds into the first track, not speeded up, with some echo on it, a very British accent and maybe a pint of Guiness. They were drunk while chatting on TB weren't they? And with Ugo admitting that he has heard Mike introduce the piece by saying "Platchinm" on a live recording, is proof for me. Not to mention the simple fact that it makes much more sense that he would be saying Platinum instead of Guitar, the album is called Platinum and the guitars don't come in until later.
I think we all have to conclusively agree now that the word is Platinum. Only two people through the whole process have said the word was Guitar, Chaese and Ugo, and now Chaese has changed his mind to Platinum and Ugo is saying it could be Platinum. And was Chaese's vote rectified? So that changes the vote from 9 to 3, to 10 to 2, which is now gone from 3 to1 in favour, to 5 to 1.
Please Mike can you clarify this for us, can't Korgscrew ask him?
Thankyou to Family Jules and Hiawatha for your amusing suggestions and input. I still love 'fattybum'.
But I am more anxious than ever now to swing the votes over to 'Platinum', so please anyone who hasn't voted yet, give it a go.
Cheers,
Tracy.

Honestly, it doesn't sound like he's saying anything to me.  It appears to be more of a computerized or electronic sound - not a human voice.  But what do I know?

I think maybe people are listening too hard now, the harder you listen the clearer you expect it to be, and it is echoey and a little inaudible. But thanks for giving it a go.

Tracy.

Thank you so much CuNimb and T4 for agreeing with me so long after my first asking of this question.

But I'm not thanking mink stole because now I think it sounds like Mike opening a can of coke! :p

I wonder why he had to wait until "Amarok" to record himself drinking it down. I think it might have gotten quite stale.

It was definitely Pizza Hut, Mike foresaw their future success, it was a hint to RB to buy it

Which part of Platinum are we talking about here? 14:92 or whatever doesn't help me as my Platinum CD has broken the whole thing into 3 tracks. Is it on Airborne, Platinum, Charleston, or North Star?
