Oh, I just realized, you're making a clever response to my post. Sorry, it's late where I'm at, I'm tired.

Nick was hanging out with cool musicians like Carla Bley when Roger Waters was propably hanging out with himself and his ego. I bet Roger Waters doesn't know who Carla Bley is.

It's funny how recent discussions keep getting diverted to discussions of PF.

I don't like Fictitious Sports very much, apart from the puns (which give the album a Godley and Creme feel); Mason and Fenn's Profiles is much better, particularly "Malta". (There's one melody on the album, though, that sounds as though it's a direct lift from Abba's "Chiquitita"!;) Still, you get the impression that Mason's presence on the album was done simply to shift a larger quantity of the album; certainly his thumping, clumsy drumming is embarrassing compared with the musicianship of Fenn.

Aw c'mon man, I love that solo, especially the live versions! For me at least Gilmour has the rare quality of being able to play extremely long solos without sounding... shall we say... widdly-widdly.

The correct technical term is in fact widdly-diddly

I love Gilmour's playing and i could quite happily listen to him solo on Comfortably Numb for as long as he wants to play it.That end solo has that 'unhinged' quality that i just love.
The same sort of thing thay Oldfield does at the end of the Horse Gaurds Parade version of FATC.

I suppose Nick was looking for somewhere to put all his money, and it was very sympathetic of him to sponsor productions by excellent musicians such as Carla Bley and Rick Fenn.
I don't care much for either of Nick's "solo albums". Fenn did better things MO and Fictitious Sports sounds rather pedestrian compared with for example Escalator Over the Hill (which is a great album, nothing like Fictitious Sports!).

BTW does anyone know what "Spot the player" is supposed to be? For a long time I thought the artist was "Nick Mason's Fictitious Sports" and that the album's title was "Spot the player". Is it just a general statement?

Hey, we could start a band and call it the Widdles (get it? ;))! Our album could be called "Nobody W*nks Frets Like We Do" and our logo could be "Would you let your daughter marry a Widdle?" (Rolling Stones reference).

Poor Caveman - what have I started?  :D

Syd B - I can restrain myself no longer. Does you name mean you're a Syd Barrett fan, or a Syd Vicious fan who can't pronounce "V"?    :p

Move to England Syd and we'll do it!Another logo could be based around the Who "Maximum Widdle!"

Of course you can join, milamber. Of course if it was just a duo, Caveman and I could go by the names 'Widdle Dee' and 'Widdle Dum'. But who would be which... I think I've hit my idiotic post quota for the week.
