"Deadwing " it's the latest album by Porcupine Tree, arrived this morning,  third play today,  great stuff, I haven't heard any Porcupine Tree before apart from one track.  New music to delight my ears, as a result of a posting on Tubular.net   :) .

Other music I've played today

"Goats Head Soup" - The Rolling Stones,  and Ommadawn, well you all know who  Ommadawn is by. :)

I was stimulated by Pink Floyd appearing together at Live 8 after 23 years, so I went back to the two CDs of theirs I play less often, namely Atom Heart Mother and Ummagumma. Both IMHO brilliant, in spite of what PF themselves said about them. :)

I'm actually listening to Metallica - Master of Puppets. It an eight and a half minute long track, mostly loud and as you'd expect, but in the middle there is a quite beautiful softer instrumental section. It was totally unexpected to me, but I like it very much.

Since Live 8, I've been on a bit of a The Who and Pink Floyd thing,
played The Wall earlier on today ;).  NP The Who Won't Get Fooled Again I videoed off the Live 8 BBC1 broadcast, next up is the Floyd  :) .

I like that track too - it's the only track I like by the pre-"And Justice for All" Metallica :). Michael Kamen's orchestral version on S&M is IMHO even better than the original. ;)

Led Zeppelin IV :) ,

Earlier on the playlist were Pink Floyd - Animals , I  felt happier after playing this :/ , weird maybe, as Animals was perhaps the start of the Roger Waters political with depressing lyrics stage of Floyd. Also The Who - Who's Next expanded CD,  and L7 "Hungry For Stink", women can rock tooo!!!!

Also have The "Mike Oldfield DVD Collection", I want to play it now , it's still wrapped in cellophane,  as it's my birthday present, only have to wait until tomorrow,as tomorrow is my 34th birthday   :)  :D .

How are you liking it? I'm listening to X & Y at the moment. I'm pretty addicted. I ran with it this morning and replayed "Speed of Sound" in a very deserted stretch of the Mississippi so that I could dance along the riverbank, unseen. Except that a ferry happened to pass within sight. Whoops. I am on the second playing tonight, making for three times today. I will probably need to turn down the volume in a few minutes, as there is a noise curfew that kicks in at 23:00 and it's only on "X&Y." :)

BTW, I had to warm to it, too, as I was on a Rush of Blood to the Head kick when X & Y joined the collection. Actually, I'd be playing that one for a modicum of variety but I cannot locate it. I suspect one of the kids (who are at camp) absconded with it.

Mcdonald and Giles: "Birdman"

Hope I did the quote thing right. Yes I really like it now Inkanta, probably still not as much as their previous two albums but it definitely grows on you.

Have you heard of Ben Lee, a young Australian artist? My son gave it to me for my birthday so today I have been playing the Gorillaz, Ben Lee, Cold Play, Moby and Epicure, my five newest cds on random.

Tracy.

Wow.  Coincidence, I listened to that album all the way through on Saturday.  Hadn't heard it in years cos my copy is on vinyl, but on Saturday I set up a new record deck and played Icicle Works' "Blind" (an awesome record) and "The La's".  I love Son of a Gun, I Can't Sleep, Way Out and Looking Glass...heck most of that album is great!

Tubular Bells 1971 Demo version, it's great, so raw and energetic    :), not been  tampered with in anyway, still  has the tape hiss and drop outs as originally recorded :) .  It's great to see how this recording progressed into the 1973 album.

Also played some of the "Art In Heaven" DVD, great stuff, husband was complaining about Pepsi's vocals on this, so haven't watched it in it's entirity.  He did like the "Art In Heaven" encore, however   :) .

Just had a text message from T4,  He asked me to say hello to everyone at Tubular .net on his behalf. He hasn't been on line much as his PC has a virus, but will be back once PC is sorted.

Two completely different bands and comparing them is futile - or were you talking about some legendary scrap they had in a car park somewhere near Chester?  ;)
