A guy in other board said he wanted to try doing it on Reason, and he did it... in two days! I loved the result. A very simple, almost naïve composistion, but competent indeed. Influenced by The Wind Chimes and Crises, perhaps? And a little Platinum in there as well? Very nice transition to the reprise. However, I'm not to keen on the drums, they sound awfully synthetic to these ears. And the accelerando beginning at 3:00 really doesn't work as executed, in my opinion. I believe this could be really, really good on real instruments. Jammer Group: Members Posts: 641 Joined: April 2000 Posted: May 26 2004, 12:13 I admire the seemingly effortless ability you have to write tracks such as these ones, even if they are as diatonic and firmly rooted in a key as you can get I think this new version with improved sounds shows that what makes your music sound good is down to both good sounds and a good human performance. There was still the robotic MIDI quantised aspect of it, especially in the section where it speeded up as Sindre said. This bit seemed quite automated without any errors that give it its extra charm Incidentally I gave your Buses demo another listen. It is a good advancement from your previous stuff up on your website. I'd like to hear more recent tracks like this one if possible! Back to top

In fact, I originaly wrote this song in 1999, way before I heard my first Mike Oldfield. I don't have any idea of how, exactly, I came up with that song. It just... came to me. Somehow. Maybe the speeding up does sound awkward, but you'll be surprised if I tell you that Reason (the program used to do that rendition) DOES NOT support tempo changes. I don't know exactly he managed to make the speeding up, but he did say he would need a calculator... He kept it as a secret. The bastard! The drums, well, Reason wasn't made to Rock musicians, so things like drums and guitars are rather limited. But I still think he did a great job with that rendition. "Buses", well, it's going on. I'm still composing it and, in fact, I think I'm close to finishing it. It has a definate mood; please take this as a compliment--it sounds like it could be a bit in a soundtrack to a movie, because of the moodiness. Especially like when the strings first come in with the flute (we think it's a flute?)--it really opens up the sound. Nice pick-up in mood afterwards and that guitar solo just rules heh. The change back to the original theme is nice after the revved-up guitar and piano. The drums as also very tastefully applied, especially around 7:16. Also like the panning and how everything comes together there. And best of all--great dynamics and theme changes. All the instruments sound quite good; it doesn't have that overly reverbed-drowned-out-soggy-sound to it; it's clear and clean and sounds great overall. The mixing sounds fine and tasteful. It's nice to hear a song with few more changes than we normally hear these days. Thanks for sharing and hope to hear more of your work. Adam Hollett kept on tweaking on the file, following some recommendations of mine, and he produced this other version. It doesn't sound 300% different from his first one, but the changes are different, and to me, he's pushing the songs to its very limits. If it gets any better, I'll explode. But wait! That's not all! He also did ppoolk! A short linking Morse-code piece on my album, a masterpiece on his hands! He managed to cross-over the two versions of the song, and made that one. What do I say?
