Hi. This is for all of you who have got the original version of Sally, on mp3 or elsewhere . The two voices singing it (low voice = Mike, high voice = Nico Ramsden, IIRC) do not coincide perfectly through the whole of the song, although they're meant to [or, at least, to me they sound like they're meant to! ] There are in fact various differences... I'm listing most, if not all of them, below here. [L = Low voice, H = High voice. Timings refer to an mp3 I have, your timings may vary in the range of one or two seconds. ;]
0:40 H finishes singing 'art' after L finishes it. 0:43 H lenghtens the N in 'one', L does not. 0:51 L doesn't stop on the O of 'know', H does. (Short breath?) 1.06 'I'll say': H starts slightly before L. 1:20 L sings 'me' before H. 1:52 'art': same as 0:40. 2:04 'know': same as 0:51. 2:34 'door': L starts before H. 4:09 H rushes on 'stop me', L sings normally. 4:12 L seems to disappear completely on 'your door'.
It may well be that, given the fun nature of the song, all of the above may be intentional, just like Mike wanted to make clear that two people are singing the song. But, considering his perfectionist nature (and considering that this was not a one-take recording... at least I don't think it was), I doubt that Mike would leave all those 'imperfections' where they are, even if it is a fun song.
what do YOU think about this?
