I completely adore this 2009 Tubular Bells...breathtakingly beautiful it is. There's so much I could, and probably will, say in time, but for now the thing that I just cannot get enough of is Mike Oldfield's Single. I was completely unaware of it's existence so when I heard it for the first time I was captivated..totally.... It is one of the most perfect pieces of music I think I know. That particular theme has always been one of my most favourite from Tubular Bells, so to unexpectedly hear it treated in this way with such tenderness and feeling, brought ( and still brings ) tears to my eyes and a lump in my throat. I stood transfixed when I first heard it - unable to move...it transports me somewhere far more beautiful than this world...and to think he was so very young when he wrote it and going through overwhelming, difficult, confusing times. I use the word beautiful far too often I know, but really I can think of no other that adequately describes it.
So, the whole Ultimate Collection is good, worth having in my opinion, but the part I love the most is those 3 :56 of the Single, maybe the essence of Tubular Bells itself for me and certainly high up there with Ommadawn and Amarok and Tubular Bells itself in my lifetime's love.
I have hopes now of 'themes' from other albums treated in different ways..revealing more and more music and showing us Mike's unique talent for creating and crafting eternal melodies. He really knows how to do this, and do it well....and I think only he can, because only he knows where the music has come from.
Wonderful stuff. Listening now, tears in my eyes...so wearing sunglasses
-------------- ....second to the right and straight on till morning....
You heard me before Yet you hear me again Then I die Till I call me again
