To Be Free remains horrible though

Yes. It seemed out of place right from the start, and still does.

Is it only because of its placement on the album, though? I always thought it was a fine song, at least nowhere close to being one of his worst ones.

To me it's just (probably) his worst song no matter where he had placed it on the album, or on what album whatsoever...

The problem for me is its presence on the album at all. I just don't feel that it belongs there. (Which is really no big deal - because it's very easily resolved! )

Just do an extra CD for your collection with a picture of a generic Nokia phone on the front. That oughta do it.

If To Be Free had been placed on Discovery or Crises, I'd still be just as annoyed with it. It just does nothing for me. When I compare it to songs like Moonlight Shadow, To France, Heaven's Open, it just seems incredibly lightweight.

Exactly, and when that women starts to 'talk' I'm just feeling shamed, looking around, hoping no-one noticed it, and quickly skip to some other track...
phew, saved from humiliation  :O

I like the album very much (except for To Be Free) - it's certainly among my favourites. It was a refreshing change of direction at the time and it really is a great album to chill out to.

Reminds me of driving around Scotland...

May I be boringly predictable and ask if you've played the game?

Voyager is another album that fits wonderfully well while driving in Scotland (even though it's normally far from being a favourite of mine). Hmmm. Yes, I know that's not quite what you said, is it. Well, still worth saying though.

I think I finally found out why Alan D likes the game so much: the album is WTF? and the game is WTF!. Please, don't think about what I just said. You have to feel it, otherwise it's pure nonsense.

(Korgscrew or any other mod would want to tell me if I'm going too far, and I'll be pleased to hear it)

About "To Be Free", well, I suppose it is lightweight. But if the definition of "heavyweight" is "Magic Touch", heh... I suppose you'll know which one I'll pick. :)

I need one of those 'eye-rolling' smilies, but we don't seem to have any. Nice custard-pie joke, Sir M.

Sir M actually knows already why I have such a passion for the game; but for the sake of anyone who might read his comment and wonder, it's because MusicVR is a genuine composite art form (running parallel to things like Blake's illuminated books or Wagner's music dramas) and consequently offers a different kind of experience through its art which, for some, is extraordinarily exciting and enriching.

I tried the game 2 days ago and it is nice, but you don't get very far if you just have the demo...
It looks quite cool though

You may - and no, I haven't played the game.

I'm a mac user so the CDROM disc only serves me as a drinks mat!

Oh no, no.... that demo is the worst possible advertisement for the game. Its only purpose is to see if the game will run on your computer.

Even I - yes, even I, obsessed as I am by MVR - find that demo one big yawn. It doesn't even hint at the richness contained within the full game.

Oh, that's a shame...
but you have to pay, don't you, to get the full game?

Which is better, MVR or Maestro? I don't know much about the second... Is there somewhere where you can try maestro?
Greetings, the King of Rock and Roll, Piltdownboy   :p

I'm afraid so - but actually, not very much. Buying the game also gives you access to the MusicVR Forum, where the online games are arranged.

For me, there is no contest. Tr3s Lunas is bulging at the seams with music and seems to be proving infinitely explorable. Those of us who play it online together are still making discoveries after more than three years. Maestro is more like what you might expect from a computer game, and has comparatively little music. But some people prefer it.

Yes, there's a downloadable demo on Mike's website; unlike the Tr3sLunas demo, the Maestro demo really does give you a fair idea (as far as it can) of what the full game is really like.

Thanks, I'll try that then!
I wasn't interested in his games before, but (thanks to tubular.net) I have become addicted somewhat to that little screen I'm sitting in front of right now... :O

I really should return to my homework now... :/

Actually, a 'heavyweight' song would be one that affects me emotionally. Like No Dream. That's the kind of song I want from Mike.

Hmm strange... I really don't feel the same like you. But i do that when i play "No mans land reprise"
The reason for loving "To be free", must be the lyrics.
"And if I get lost
I really don't mind
Cos I'm me
Doing just fine" , a really happy voiced song with african style. He did this to "Tears from an angel" too, oh I love this style of music.
Do any know about other music like this? Another artist?
I have one crazy album in fact. That one is Vangelis album - "La fete sauvage" Just one track 38 min with african drums and stuff like that.

For me, the No-Man's Land reprise is the perfect natural end to an almost perfect album. Is it just the saxotar that makes you unhappy with it?
