Exciting news folks!!!!

First he did the unthinkable. He turned Amarok into full sheet music covering every musical part of this dense masterpiece.

Surely not again????

He's back. The sequel. This time it's personal ;)

Covering every musical part to the complete Incantations album...could this be a step too far????

Join me on the journey :)

This will be such an exciting project, Ryan. I'm already looking forward to playing some of those ridiculous programmed synth loops on acoustic piano! Being able to play the guitar parts from Amarok on piano is encouraging; it makes me feel like I can tackle any obstacle! Needless to say, I wasn't so optomistic when those parts were kicking my butt when I was learning them (the Ommadawn-like triplet solo still does).

For anyone who is interested, my group has learned the entire Amarok album. We are in the rehearsal stages at this point and we are planning on performing it live in March. So be on the look-out for the video of that, which I will post in the Amarok forum.

Back to Incantations, Ryan, I feel that transcribing this album, along with the changes that are going on in your life, with your new teaching job, having to move to another location, etc. will leave you with new memories of this piece for the rest of your life.

You mention the flute solo at the end of part 1. I transcribed this myself a number of years ago. See this forum topic. Feel free to use the PDFs I've posted if you want.

Incantations Part II is now complete...whoop!

Just need to tidy the score and proof tomorrow. The Hiwatha poem was much longer than I remember and the crazy synth arpeggios were fun to do.

Biggest nightmare? Having to change key signature virtually every bar!

Next in line is part Four.

Cheers

There's no escape from it, really. Lol.

Changing key signatures every other measure is probably preferable to writing the whole thing in C and using accidentals!

Now give me a hint, is the insanely fast ascending synth sequence at 2:30 played in 5ths?

EDIT: Don't tell me. I guess I'll know soon enough.

There are two sequences at play in that section. The first is in the bass which actually moves in 4ths and the fast synth pattern moves up in tones. It's all very clever stuff. It takes quite a long time to 'get' the pattern and that is what I have spent most of my time doing, but once you get it, he does tend to stick to it.

Part four will be interesting. The vibe solo is definatle not a canon - in fact it is two superimposed themes. Again very clever stuff from Mr Oldfield.

How's it all going? Are your arrangements available for general sale once the commissioner has received them or are they for their eyes only? :)
