Heard this track for the first time yesterday - does anyone know anything about it?

Despite the fact that it was released in 1985 (or thereabouts) as the B-side to 'Shine', it sounds a lot like 'Incantations' - quoting some themes and chords from the album.

Was it originally recorded back then?

yes, "Path" was recorded somewhere around "Incantations" sessions but it was released officially on "Shine" single.

'The Path' appears in the film 'Reflections' as well as other outtakes from 'Incantations'.
