This question has almost certainly been asked in other places before...the answer is a different matter...a question that seems simple on the face of it, yet may prove more difficult in answering...it is...

Who designed the cover for QE2?

I can make guesses (as can a lot of people, I suppose) but I'm still without a definite answer...anyone able to help?

As Londonian, you're certainly not asking what does the cover represent are you ?

Heh, no, I know what it is (obviously meant to look like the bow of the cruise ship QE2...some LPs even had a porthole cut in the cover).

What I want to know if who designed it, who did the artwork. It remains a mystery to me...

I think its a boring cover. Just four colours, and most of them are black and white. He could have made it a bit more exciting.

sorry I don't know the identity of the artiste(s) frown...

well the UK cover is a bit uninspired, but I wonder if this cover was ever released on CD:

Well, I hope your opinion will change, 'cause I think I'm going to use the colors of the cover for my new website. :D

Always loved QE2. Was the first album I heard of Mike.

Oh yeah, about the design Korgscrew (but I guess you already read that)... in the remastered version of QE2 it says something about www.public-art.net but those guys only did the re-design... just a mention

You mean like the cover of The Millennium Bell?  :p

I think the blue colour fits the music very well... for some reason. I like the combination of colours on the cover. Sue me. :p :D

Could have been a Hipgnosis job? Maybe not quite up to their usual standards...

It's very striking, easy to spot, whereas Discovery would blend in too much with other CDs in a shop.

And, IMHO, the tracks are excellent  :)

I also think it's a very good cover. Although it does work better in the smaller cover format of the compact disc, I can imagine it being a bit dull for an LP.

First; The album is named QE2 after the boat Queen Elisabeth the second. Just looking at the cover and listening to the album makes sense. It´s a perfect cover which truly images the album!

Oh now look what you have started, are you out of your mind, I know you come from a far country but Holy xxxx.  I think QE2's first excursion was supposed to be from Portsmouth to the Rio Grande, but they had a crisis on the way.  They went via some islands where the captain had a foreign affair.  Five miles out from that wonderful land, Sally and her Guest, Mr Ridge, who was on his way to France, were listening to music from the balcony when the heavens opened.

My Word - this could go on for some time...... Ray

Actually, her maiden voyage started in second of May (incidentally my birthday), so that would make her a Taurus (but she was launched in September, and launching is perhaps a bit more akin to birth, maiden voyage is a more like learning to walk or graduating from college :p ). They also had quite a bit of crises while building her, her original maiden voyage (scheduled for December 1968) had to be cancelled due to technical difficulties and in the end the shipyard actually lost money while building her due to the extensive repairs that had to be made.

And I must add that technically the QE2 is not a cruise ship but an ocean liner, one of the last of that kind to be built.

The QE2 cover reminds me of Black Sabbath's Techincal Ecstacy sleeve (which is by Hipgnosis), most notably the inner sleeve. It also makes me think of Kraftwerk's Tour De France sleeve.

When I think of it the QE2 sleeve is rather good, but it doesn't suit the music. It's more of Kraftwerk-sleeve. I can imagine Kraftwek doing an album about a boat!

It does actually bear some resemblance to the cover of Tour de France, now that you mention it (however the cover of TdF is based on Checkoslovachian stamp, so there is probably no Mike-Kraftwerk link here).
