... apart from from the QE hall rendition, the only other live set was to be the first part, on BBC TV's Second House programme.

Taken from Peter Evans, Dark Star Website

The show was recorded on November 30th, 1973 in the BBC Studios for BBC2.

Line-up was: Mick Taylor (gtr), Mike Oldfield (gtr, bass), Steve Hillage (gtr), Mike Ratledge (keyb), Karl Jenkins (horns), Fred Frith (gtr), Derek Bailey (gtr) & Henry Cow Band

Telecast was probably in early 1974 (repeated on June 27th, 1974).

Hope that adds a little detail to your question.

Is the video clip that is regularly shown on VH1 classic part of the broadcast or was this a promo?

I presume that clip comes from the transmission (if the VH1 version is the one that´s featured as an excerpt in the Elements video). You can tell by the background images (water etc.). The full version lasts about half an hour and consists of Tubular Bells Part 1.

No other performance from that period comes to my mind.

No idea, but what's up with Kevin Ayers being involved in a performance of TB? What does he do? He's not on the "second house" performance for sure.

BTW, Second House is perhaps the ultimate performance of TB part 1 if you ask me! It's incredibly faithful to the original, but slightly better.

This looks very much like the Tubular Bells premier concert in the Queen Elizabeth Hall on June 25th 1973.

You can see the lineup on the program here:
