Two days ago I've heard a song with the melodic beginning of TB in the background. It was a kind of Gangsta Rap... does anyone know about this song?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, it is ICE-T with "Gotta Lotta Love" MCD Nr.:SYNDD 3
But don´t ask me how he got permission to use that sample frown and why ICE-T took that!

Greetings

Tubular Bells being used like that seems to reflect on what Mike says about that piano tune being almost soaked into the culture - it turns up everywhere. It being a huge selling album would be one reason why it's so well known (but only in those areas where it's sold huge numbers, of course) and it having been used in The Exorcist is another...you'd probably find Ice T heard it somewhere while he was putting the track together and realised it would fit into his song quite nicely...

Getting permission would then just be the case of asking the copyright owners (and publishers), Virgin Records, if he could do it - he may even be with a company which is part of the same group as Virgin.

This isn't exactly what you're looking for, but some songs which include parts of Mike's music (for example, Janet Jackson's sample of Tubular Bells on 'The Velvet Rope' and Ice T's use of TB) are included in Rainer Münz's list of cover versions of Mike's tracks at http://www.rzuser.uni-heidelberg.de/~jk0/oldfield/cover.htm

I am not sure whether there are other tracks which include parts of Mike's music but which are not included in Rainer's list. If anyone has heard something which isn't listed there, Rainer would probably be interested to know (though it may be that he knows about it but has decided not to include it in his discography for whatever reason).
