Does anyone have this edition of TB and if so what does it have that the ordinary one doesn't

Are there any websites which have more information about this album?

The 25th anniversary edition has been remastered. How much difference that will make depends on what sort of equipment you play CDs on and how hard you listen. Things like tape hiss has been supressed, odd noises from dodgy edits and things have been removed, and the tonal balance has been altered slightly (high frequencies added to parts where they've been lost due to huge amounts of overdubs, bass brought out a little, that sort of thing).

It's also on a gold CD, and has a small booklet inside the cover (it has a hardback book type cover, instead of a regular jewel case), containing extracts from the book "The making of mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells".

I have it. The inner sleeve says "... 25 years later we have been able to locate (strangely for the first time on CD) the original master tapes".
BUT: The "drunk" version of the Sailors' Hornpipe ("The Hallway, a great house true", etc.) is still NOT on it!!! Can anybody solve this contradiction for me?

I know now: The words are on the original RECORDING. They're NOT on the original MASTER (see Lyrics & Language forum). This master was also used for 25th Anniversary. But the BOXED version has been reMIXED and reMASTERED from the original recording, now WITH the words!
So: BOXED is in a way "more original", isn't it??

As with the 25th anniversary CD, I noticed that all CD versions (even the new HDCD) are shorter in time than my LP version of TB1.
I still play my TB1 from the 4Lp-set BOXED.
The timings are part one 25:55 (on CD just 25:00) and part two 25:47 (on CD just 23:50).
I understand that the Sailors Hornpipe is not on CD, that explains the loss of 2 minutes. But how about the loss of 1 minute on part one?

For me, it's the reason I won't buy the CD.

Also, the back of the CD cover contains (I think) a typo. It lists the last instrument to enter on pt.1 to be "Turbular Bells". Also, the track lengths are incorrect (pt.1 is ~25:50)

But I suppose you knew that already.

:-)

I rushed last time. The CD edition listes pt.1 as being 25:00, is does actually time in at ~25.50, so there is actually no loss of material in that section. Pt. 2 is listed as 23:50, which again I think is shorter. I am not sure - I am on public computer, and CD drive is fitted with a lock! Have these people never heard (of)* the joys of electronic music? frown

Now that maccafan has brought this to light I would like to give some facts about some of the questions asked here a long time ago (in a not too far galaxy :) ) just in case somebody still is wondering about it ;)

The length of the tracks are diferent because is a different remix than the original/25th anniversary/HDCD version, so some parts may be longer while some others may have been shortened, for example, The Sailor's Hornpipe section is longer in Boxed which includes the Viv Stanshall drunken description of The Manor.

What about the new Bahamas 2009 remix? It also has slightly different tracks length cause some modifications have been done (for example, in part 1 there's an additional repetition which is not included on the original mix).
