In true Oldfieldian style for Christmas. All instruments are real.

I always like alternative versions of Christmas carols. And I like this version!

Good job Ian, thanks for sharing.

Cheers,
Terry.

It's a great track ian! love it.

mind you, for the full Xmas cheese, you need lots of hand bells and a childrens choir in there.

Very nice and very Oldfieldian. Your music has a characteristic sound of it's own and I'm trying to pinpoint it; - it has a rural Virginia feel about it (not sure if that's the right state) - but there are folk sounds and instruments you might find in "The Waltons" series  .

I know what you mean by the sounds but I cant really hear the tune myself. Will have to have a listen. It was just a violin phrase as I have a kids size one on loan.

Other real instruments in there are mandolin, banjo , 12 string, Spanish , Dulcimer harp and my late granddad's accordion.

I liked the nice chords - made it a bit different, good stuff.  Lots of MO type sounds there too, like the mandolin!
My silly metal version of the same is found here

This is really good Ian! With your own rendition you have combined the old traditional with a touch of Oldfield and your own distinctive style! Patent it! Christmas rocks....softly! Deb

Thanks folks. I could have done it totally in my own style but I wanted to give a nod to Mike.

BTW, nice playing Jim :-)

"Hibernal" is something else! - I could listen to it for a full hour. Particularly nice violin and cello arrangements.

Thats very kind of you Wigga. It (Hibernal) was really recorded as a TV cue but as I am hopeless at playing the violin I got some nice phrases out of it. Mind you, it is a kids one. The Cello sound was from my Yamaha Motif which is quite good. It sits well with the violin. Would love a Cello.

very nice! i liked all of the tracks, Hibernal would not sound out of place on a film soundtrack. and East was good, better in the second half, felt the first half was a little crowded  :)

hope you dont mind my "review" lol, but very good all round, silent night made me feel all christmassy!

@ ian: congrats, it's really excellent. You've perfectly captured the mood of the track and the Oldfieldian atmosphere, even if, of course, Mike already did his own version of "Silent Night". :)

@ Jim B.: your version isn't metal at all to me [it's more Zeppelin-esque rock-blues than metal!] and it isn't at all silly. However, I couldn't recognize where do the various interpolated acoustic bits come from, which are most certainly not from "Silent Night". :D
