hey fellow Oldfieldonions...i was wondering if mike (or anyone else connected) ever discussed exactly who wrote which sections of Family Man and in particular Orabidoo...they are excellent pieces, but i cannot *fully* appreciate them until i know which parts mike had input in and which were written by others...any info, as usual, is much appreciated smile...

oh, i forgot to mention, the two tracks in question are credited to Oldfield/Cross/Fenn/Frye/Reilly/Pert, who I believe were also mike's backing band on the who's next tour...its just that orabidoo contains some of my all-time favourite oldfield melodies and i have to know whether mike wrote them or not!...thanks...

AFAIK Mike wrote all of the music... the other ones wrote all of the lyrics, because Mike's biggest problem in those days was writing sensible lyrics. wink smile

'the other ones wrote all of the lyrics'

Were the lyrics of FMO (the track) written by someone else? wink

I know the thread is 19 years old but wtf...

I interviewed Tim Cross, and he informed me that he (Tim, that is) wrote the "fugue" section of Orabidoo (the one at 7:00). That part is re-used in Taurus II, so I guess technically Tim should be credited on that track too.
He also said Rick Fenn and Maggie wrote the "Ireland's eye" section of the same song.

So the group did contribute more than lyrics. I also think that FMO benefits from that diversity, with more styles. Amarok is great, but all the melodies are fairly typical Mike Oldfield melodies. Mixing things up is a good thing sometimes.
