You should know why you're here. If you don't, see my post in "The Chatroom" topic (also in About The Forums).

Just to remind you, some people think that scheduled chats should happen to bring everyone together, but we have one small problem. Time. It waits for no-one and it's not the same around the world, so we need to make allowances.

The story so far:

We need to arranged scheduled chat sessions. We need to use a standard time base - GMT suggested since the most of the world calculates it time difference by it.

It's a relatively serious issue (for these forums) since, even with 300+ registered forum users, it is not often that large numbers of people get in the room at once. People are more likely to respond to "Webchat tonight 8-9" vs. "Webchat 24/7"

Also, if anyone has any stats e.g. most number of people in the 'room at once, etc. please post them in "The chatroom" topic.

And the main in the rain picked up his bag of secrets...

Another option is to schedule "Euro chats," "US chats," etc., to let fans in reasonably similar time zones to gather.
There is something nice, however, in the occasional serendipitous meeting. Tim Highfield and I seem to bump into each other often--but it's beddy-time time in Oz when it's second-cup-of-coffee time here in the US!

I'd like to schedule a chat: "EURO LEISURE"
TIME: GMT 23:00.

I take it that chat was scheduled for 28 March. I've been offline for a few days so I didn't notice the message until this morning.

Anyway, if it was for 28 March, was it a success? Could there be a future in scheduled chats?

I meant to schedule it daily.
28 & 29 March, no-one was there.
30 March, I couldn't, because of rehearsal w/ my band. But late at night:
31 March, from 01:00 GMT: I chatted with Korgscrew.
Next week, I will try daily. Tim, maybe you'll like to join it. -Carsten-

Hmm...

Carsten said that the chat would be scheduled for 2300GMT. That's 7AM in the morning (carried away by a sunrise shadow), and I'm generally online from 6.45 (ie 2245), so if you can keep the chat going (if there is one of course) until then, I'd be happy to join (of course, if you know I'm going to be on soon, you might also want to end it quickly wink, and I'll just chat with Korgscrew as normally happens most mornings (my time of course)).

-Tim-

You might not want to chat at the time this was posted as well wink, because this is my other main time of being online.

Of course Saturdays are even better, I'll just have to wake up wink. I remember when the chatroom was first up (only about a month ago!), the Friday night (GMT)/Saturday morning, quite a few people popped by. This was when the HTML chat was the only one available, so things may have changed since then, but hopefully everyone will start rechecking the chat room, otherwise it will probably end up an usused accessory to Olivier's site.

And for the record, I think the first message in a conversation on the Java chat was:

<Korgscrew> Hmm...

eek Oops!
I was wrong. Had the wrong idea about how earth is revolving. SORRY!
I meant: 22:00 Middle-European time. That is 21:00 GMT or 16:00 ET (US).

So, new suggested EURO LEISURE time: 21:00 GMT. smile
