I reckon the vocals are crap, but the rest of the song is good. It sounds a bit like it mixes in with the intro of Punkadiddle. Can anyone confirm this for me?

i found a page which has the orginal sally mixed in with punkadiddle for download. for people like me who really love platinum you can download it and see why the intro of punkadiddle sounds poor on the into wonderland version of platinum.

http://www.iespana.es/Geltrular/english/

follow these links to get to it

These links don't seem to be working. My copy of platinum has Into Wonderland on it, correctly titled and with a silver inner sleeve. I'm pretty keen on getting a download of sally - so any other sources?

The start is neither Sally nor Punkadiddle as you will see. Maybe it's just a little bit of music to connect this track with the previous one.

I suppose you are talking of an LP and not of a CD, aren't you?

You're right, Spinne. The start is the end of Woodhenge. :)

thanks for the link, just getting it now.

yes, i'm old enough to have starte buying mike's stuff from incantations onwards, although the first album i heard (about 5,000 times to my parents horror) was Ommadawn. So most of my stuff is first edition. or so I thought until i realised Sally was on a few pressings.

The sleeve listing on the LP actually has Into Wonderland*, but no explanation for the star, and it's on side 2 after woodhenge.
:)

Got the track. Having heard it for the first time, and on this version, i see why branson didn't want it on. It just isn't very good. Even On horseback has better vocals.

any idea why sally has been added to guilty on this? :O

SALLY is a funny song and sounds a bit like a joke...i like MIke's vocals on it...well, fun to listen it. fading into PUNKADIDDLE was also original idea.

"SALLY is a funny song and sounds a bit like a joke..."

Yes. As Korgscrew wrote elsewhere, it is a very ironic song which Mike uses basically as a love-&-affection lyric to his then-girlfriend Sally Cooper.

I think that the song is an essential part of the original Platinum album. Its main theme [i.e. the notes to "Sal-ly, I'm just a go-ril-la..."], totally absent from its (IMHO) dodgy replacement 'Into wonderland', appears elsewhere in the album, for ex. during Airborne [Platinum Part 1], accompanied by a similar drum rhythm, and in the 'Intro' to Punkadiddle, which IMHO doesn't sound at all like Guilty. :)

I think that VIRGIN should put Original Sally on HDCD remasters - the album then would sound like it always should sound...

I'm sorry but not, the first 36 seconds of this track are no Woodhenge. Listen to it again. After this 36 seconds Sally starts, you will notice that around the first five seconds of the song appear too at the start of Into Wonderland (maybe because Woodhenge is still playing  ).

It seems that Branson quickly substituted the album on stores for the new edition and maybe destroyed the original copies (except those that have been already sold). A friend of mine who is a collector told me that it was even more difficult to find a copy with Sally than a copy of the first edition of TB.

I prefer Sally than Into Wonderland and that guitar solo. Almost, Sally fits better in the album (as Ugo has said).  ;)

You can use the 'edit' facility to correct mistakes like that - as I've demonstrated above...but you can correct your own too :)

I totally love the original version of Sally and agree that it's much better than Into Wonderland (that ruins the flow of the album). I used to own the tape with the original Sally on and played it unendingly - someone nicked it about 10 years ago!
I love the lyrics - they are silly but very well executed. Of course the guitar bits are excellent.

I got used to "Into wonderland" on my Platinum Cd but i enjoy "sally" as well...very very funny song and much more interesting ending (fades into "punkadiddle")...Mike's vocals are fantastic  :D
it would be much more great if "sally" would be put into HDCD reissues...all in all it is the real part of "platinum"!!!
