I went to the url mentioned, and I downloaded hte 1st mov. Can you tell me the timing on this midi file please when this similarity happend ? The three "Rachmaninov" sections in Amarok are freely inspired to the WHOLE concerto. But it IS the Piano Concerto No.1. Trust me. Maybe you cannot identify the notes because Midi files of classical music are often very free reworkings of actual pieces. To me, the 'noise' on it sounds like turning wheels with ball-bearings. Maybe old-fashioned roller-skates (before they went "in-line", you know?), but definitely NOT vinyl noise! Ugo Group: Members Posts: 5495 Joined: April 2000 Posted: Sep. 06 2000, 12:30 After I've finally listened to the whole of Amarok (...I finally got it, after half a lifetime's looking for it on CD!!...) I can correct ALL of my answers to this: the "Rachmaninov" theme (Theme E in Steve Farrell's analysis) is only vaguely reminiscent of the dramatic, 'heavy' piano style that was typical of Rachmaninov's own playing. There is NO direct reference to ANY piece by Rachmaninov. P.S. Carsten, I'm sorry I have to disagree with you, but the background noise is, IMHO, really intended to simulate an old vinyl record's noise, whatever it is produced with on Mike's recording!! -------------- Ugo C. - a devoted Amarokian Back to top
