Quote (Deadcalm @ Jan. 13 2006, 18:00) | Look at the 2 GENESIS BOX sets ARCHIVE ...Now thats the Sort of thing that gets you EXCITED !!! 4 CDS and 3CDS full of Rare Demos Unreleased Live etc .. Now thats whats you call interesting !! So Virgin do know how to market things if the material is out there!! A MIKE Archive Box now thats INTERESTING not Boring old rehashes |
I have mixed emotions about this box set, I'm excited by the extended mixes of Shadow On The Wall, To France and Moonlight Shadow . The 12" versions on CD3, worth getting to complete the collection, even though I don't care so much for Islands, Heaven's Open and Earth Moving as I do with Mike's other albums.
I'm pondering the question who is this Platinum Collection aimed at? The record buying public who think Mike is just about Tubular Bells, People who are about to discover the pleasure Mike's music can bring, serious fans/collectors, well I don't think it's aimed at the latter. Given the price as £12.99, yes it's a very reasonable price.
I do think some of the tracklisting is a bit of a dissapointment, is the opening part of Tubular Bells ,or the explosive ending to Ommadawn Part 1 really neccesary? Saying that hearing that excerpt of Ommadawn on a compilation really started my interest in Mike's music.
For me I'd like to see Mike's Reel, WoI "Lurker" mix, In Dulci Jubilo (for Maureen)or if it's around the German lyric IDJ, Blue Peter without sudden ending and also Froggy Went A Courting included on a compilation, to name but a few, add to this "Cook's Tune", don't know why it was left off L&S I'm prepared to pay a more for a quality compilation with plenty of liner notes and pictures
Addenum added 4 th Feb 10.42 am :- Or alternatively why not do the same as Led Zeppelin had done with the "Remasters" in 1990, There was a more basic 2 CD edition, plus a 4 CD box with a quality booklet with pictures and liner notes, and previously unavailable tracks, aimed at LZ collectors rather than the record buying public in general.
-------------- I'm going slightly mad, It finally happened, I'm slightly mad , just very slightly mad
If you feel a little glum to Hergest Ridge you should come.
I'm challenging taboos surrounding mental health
