Tubularbills: didn't Walter (or Wendy) Carlos already do music for the (film rendition of) ACO? ;) Of course, if Mike started from the book, the result may be likely to turn out completely different from Mr (or Ms) Carlos' work. :)

Tubularbills, again: I was just jokin'. :)  Walter (or Wendy) Carlos did the soudtrack for the entire movie "A clockwork orange" by Stanley Kubrick, but, unfortunately, only some of his tracks went into the commonly available "Music from the motion picture" CD. Carlos, then, issued the complete soundtrack at his (or her) own expense, and now it is out of print.  ;)

A fantastic book (well I think it is) that I read most summers is "Drowned World" by J G Ballard. There are a lot of references to sounds, and the book is incredibly atmoshperic - not much plot in other words.

If Mike wants to get ideas or inspiration for his next album, I'd recommend he reads it.

I would also add "Vermillion Sands" by the same author, as many of the stories involve music and/or difficult artistes! But Trevor Horn got there first.

"The Soul of the Fire" by Terry Goodkind. It's about some mighty powerful bells.

Where the Falls of Minnehaha
Flash and gleam among the oak-trees,
Laugh and leap into the valley."
