Korgscrew mentioned on Tubular Chat this morning that OrchHR is no longer on the link given here. It can be found at:

Well, it seems that you have a good version with that OrchHR mp3, but:
2 o 3 ago, in the amarok mailing list was made a "tree", as most of you know, but not the one who made the question about the OrchHR. The "tree" was a system for making available the recording to anybody subscribed to it, but the original source was a complete top quality recording, this was was copied to someone with CD-burner and each one copied and sended it to another people. People with burners were called branches and non-burner people leafs. It worked very well and I recived my copy very quickly, with a nice cover and with a incredible sound quality.
So, if you want a copy, it's not so hard to find, try to contact with someone in the list that lives more-or-less near to you and that can make a copy of it. Good luck!

I've had some form of creative thought. Pity it's a bit too late for me to actually perform this in my Music performance exam. (9/5/01 - for all the Americans out there, that's in May)

<CLASSICAL-TERMINOLOGY>
I've been thinking of doing an arrangement of the first 4mins or so of HR for two violin or 1vn+viola with piano continuo or something similar. I have already transcribed the tune from it, so adding the bass and figures should be quite easy - also maybe combining the melodic theme with the brassy bit in the middle of it - I tried it and the harmony is almost there.
</CLASSICAL-TERMINOLOGY>

OK, for everyone that didn't get that, just buggering about with the HR music with some stringy things

OK, I seem to have killed this topic (not another one ... )

When I try to download the aforementioned MP3 files, I get HTTP error 403- Forbidden (damn)

Maybe I should try it @ home instead of in school?

Hi everyone, this is my first post.I have been a fan since Platinum and been to every London gig since crises 1983.I am a recent convert to broadband and it's fantastic being able to download all these rare mp3 files (including my first ever gig in 1983).Of course I wouldn't be posting on this topic if I wasn't after Orchestral Hergest ridge, so, can anyone post a link that works please? The links previously posted are now broken. Many thanks,  Rob.

well links seem to get broken quite fast so if you are searching for OHR try eMule it can be found quite well there

It is reliably on the amarok ftp server. If you join the mailing list (http://www.amarok.f9.co.uk) and post there, one of the members will let you know the details. I think they can't let too many people in to leech files otherwise the server could be removed - much like Mike's board as of 9th June 2004!

is that version a "flawless" one or is it the same as the mp3 files discussed here?

I suppose there is no way to pry this recording out of them legally?

No, there isn't. There is a web-site selling on bootleg, but I don't know if I can post that link here.

I heard Orch.HR too, recently thanks to a great Tubular person helping out. It's really good, though part 2 is much better. Some bits are maybe even better than original, the great section that starts at about 2  or 3 minutes, with the operetta vocal :)
sheer genius

Hello everyone, I'm new here  :D

(I tried posting earlier but things wouldn't work for me...obviously they do now, so thanks Mary)

What I wanted to say is, that I am absolutely adamant that I have a cassette copy of the Orchestral Hergest Ridge purchased very legitimately from a UK high street store. (I'm 90% sure about this).

The cassette is buried in my storage unit and it's unlikely I'll be going in there for a year or more however, if I do and if I'm correct, I'll post the details here.

Be Well.

(P.S. I know I'm resurrecting an old thread, but the album itself is more than 30 years old! It shouldn't matter too much eh?)

Interesting to read! That would be more than a big surprise for this recording was never officially released. Even Tony Palmer has stated this very recently.

Thanks.

I would hate to get peoples 'hopes up' etc.. but I have a large (800) cassette collection in storage and I'm really sure I have the Orchestral version in there. My first reaction when reading that it was never officially released was that the poster must be mistaken.

Whatever the facts of the matter, if I do have it, it may well have the original receipt within the cover too. This still doesn't make it an 'official release' but most of my cassettes were purchased in HMV / Virgin / WHSmith at some time or another. (And I know they sometimes sell things that they 'shouldn't' mistakes happen).

(I really hope I'm right on this one or I'm going to look a fool! LOL!  :p )
