The Q&A forum seems to have disappeared :), so I'll try asking these in here...

1) What is the orchestra performing on MotS? The Royal Philarmonic, the London Phil. or another one?

2) Is there actually a choir on MotS, or are the choir parts just multi-tracked recordings of Hayley Westenra? [Considering Karl Jenkins' previous work, that doesn't sound unlikely to me. :)] And if it is really a choir, who are they?

3) Where/which parts does Lang Lang actually play?

Thanks in advance to anyone who answers.

78 views & no replies? I must've asked really difficult questions to answer. Or maybe the answers are way too obvious? :D :D

The orchestra's just a bunch of session musicians; they seem to have called it the Sinfonia Sfera orchestra, but hired session players is all they are. It's a common thing to do for film soundtracks and other kinds of commissioned recordings. I believe the same goes for the choir. I currently have no information on the extent of Lang Lang's involvement.

Thanks, Richard. ;) Yes, using session players to play orchestral parts on 'pop' and soundtrack recordings is indeed very common, it happens all the time also here in Italy. I was just imagining that, MotS being a "classical" recording, an estabilished, well-known orchestra (& choir) would have been commissioned to perform on it. Karl Jenkins has always used the LPO on his Adiemus recordings, so I thought that his involvement in this might have led to something similar... :)

Before your question, I would have said that Lang Lang play all the piano lines (I don't remember there are so many...), just because that seems logical, but now that you've asked, it's not as obvious to me...

@ Clodomir: in the official presentation on the Universal Classics website, some time ago, Mike O. stated that he would be playing guitar and piano on the album. (Lang Lang and Karl Jenkins weren't mentioned anywhere in that presentation.) He also stated the same thing when originally presenting the album's concept in early interviews [when it was supposed to be about Hallowe'en... luckily it isn't! :D]: he said he wouldn't be playing electric guitars, but just classical guitar and grand piano. :)
From what I've heard of MotS, the classical guitar is very clearly played by him, but I'm very uncertain about who played the piano! Before knowing that Lang Lang was involved, I figured out that Mike O. played it all by himself  - even complicated parts may have been very easily played by him, using heavy editing techniques (as in the ending of Sunjammer, on TBII). But then I learnt about the involvement of another pianist, and a virtuoso classical one too... that's where my Lang Lang question came from. :)

Thanks a lot for everything, manintherain. [BTW, where did you get all the info? :D] Ms. Carewe and Ms. McKenna AFAIR are regular Jenkins collaborators... it kind-of surprises me that Miram Stockley isn't in the choir as well. :)

@ Ben - no, Lang Lang and Langdana aren't the same person, though they're equally good in their respective genres. :D
