Quote (Matt @ Aug. 27 2009, 09:53) | "From time to time on the albums there have been moments of original intensity, but nothing like the first one [...] Though you never know - I'm perfectly capable of making another piece of music as good if not better than Tubular Bells" |
This is directed DIRECTLY TO MIKE:
Mike, actually, many of us don't really understand what you are talking about here. There are (IMHO), overall seen, just as many original spiritual BRILLIANT moments on your other long instrumentals as on Tubular Bells. Surely, TB is great, most of it. And I reckon, the very making of it gives you a very special feeling for it.
But from a pure musical perspective, it is really difficult to argue that pieces like Ommadawn, Incantations, Amarok, Distant Earth, not to mention Music of the Spheres are not of the same quality as TB. Even The Lake, Crisis, Wind Chimes, have extraordinary excerpts and would easily stand beside most parts on TB.
E.g., "Fast Guitars" versus "Let There Be Light": are they comparable? If yes, why is the former superior to the latter?? I simply don't get it, Mike.
Your stuff is highly creative, from 1973 to 2008. Most of it!
MOTS is your best so far, by the way!!!!!!!! Be f-n proud! Shabda rules
