Elvis Presley - It's Now or Never was the no.1 song when I was born.

What's yours?

"mama papa" by Cyan.

I haven't heard it until now. It's an italian bubblegum act and it's not very good.

BTW what charts did you mean? Being swedish, I checked the swedish chart archives. Do I sense a bit of UK-centrism?
 :(

Somebody Help Me Spencer Davis Group

I love the list of number one albums from the year I was born 1966.....

25 Dec(1965) Beatles Rubber Soul
19 Feb Original Soundtrack The Sound Of Music
30 Apr Rolling Stones Aftermath
25 Jun Original Soundtrack The Sound Of Music
13 Aug Beatles Revolver
01 Oct Original Soundtrack The Sound Of Music

That`s your entire year right there folks, gotta` love that variation. The Sound Of Music was number one when I was born.

The same process of repetition was kind of repeated in 1967,except The Rolling Stones were replaced by The Monkees.

Anyway thanks to Lars I now know who
The Hep Stars were. The group Benny was in before Abba no less.I`m looking at the list here and they were right up there with The Beatles in terms of number one singles.

I thought this would be straight forward.

Lars - the charts from where you were born, but if you don't like that Swedish song chose the British no.1 if you like.

Dirk - how do you solve a problem like Maria?

I Fall To Pieces, Patsy Cline, according to billboard. Sounds like I was born under a bad sign.

Frank Ifield "I Remember You," mind you I only recall hearing it age one! Plenty of Beatles "Yesterday", and Elvis Presley. My daughter was born to the Pan Pipes. I hate them, really do. A midwife said they were calming! I said they were only pissing me off and felt like throwing something. She was born after an induced labour of 12 hrs. She was a serene little thing, but she hates pan pipes big time! Deb

Yeah I remember being on holiday in Great Yarmouth that summer and it was never off the radio... "I will not have gossip in this jungle"  :D

Looking at that list Caveman I think 1975 may have been the first year I really started getting interested in music.Oddly enough though two of the records I most remember as having an early lasting impression were Space Oddity(which is in your list there) and John Lennon`s Imagine which were both re-issues.

....some rif raf as well..

Dirk - I've found your actual birth song (going by your profile) - Walker Brothers - "The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore."

I always thought it was "deep" shade of blue? Maybe I like "deep" better?Actualy for years I always thought Scott sang Loneliness is a crowded room, and then I realised I`d just sub-consciously cross-referenced that from another song.Which in fact I can`t remember what that song is now? :p

No you`re right though I mis-read the list earlier.Spencer Davis did`nt get to number one till the 14th so Walker Brothers were still toppermost of the poppermost when I was born, you`re right.

Scott Walker`s maybe one of the exceptions for your Eno thread Wiga.According to legend while working with Eno (during the 70`s) Walker wasn`t too thrilled with the results and ended up throwing the master tapes in the Thames.I think it probably is an "urban legend" really, but I know Eno did say he wasn`t in the best frame of mind at the time.Eno still speaks very highly of his work and influence though. And Walker himself did record a couple of albums that were very similar in style to Low/Heroes.

End of december 1970... well, in Italy it was the omnipresent Lucio Battisti, with a weird half-melodic, half-rock song called "Fiori rosa, fiori di pesco". Internationally, it may have been either The Beatles ("Let It Be") or S&G ("Bridge over Troubled Water") - but I'm not really sure about this.

Tubular Tos - that's a useful site you've found there - makes the process a lot quicker, although it doesn't have the French charts.

In Britain your birth song would be - "Kisses for Me" by Brotherhood of Man, from the Eurovision Song Contest. Wow, that is a special song for you :).

I can't remember what song exactly, or what country the chart was of, but I remember having done this before, and the result was something by Space, which I thought was very cool.  :)
