Just joined, been a MO fan ever since TB came out, me & my mates were all fans of his and one of my first ever live concerts was seeing him at Manchester Apollo doing TB and am sure I am featued on the exposed cover pictures as some were taken there when encore was played.

Since that time have bought just about every album on vinyl originally until CD came out and then bought all on CD including the gold TB issue which sounds just fab. Think my other favourite CD is The Songs Of Distant Earth.

Saw Mike in Edinburgh & London for the TB 2 & 3 premieres, got the tshirts for each.

Joined the Dark Star mag a few years ago & bought all the back issues.

Found this site by accident really after tying to buy the new special edition signed package but missed out and not sure at £80 will be buying it now unsigned.

Need to get a Mike Oldfield related email name if can think of one. <y nickname here comes from fact my first love in music is Beatles & Macca.

Marcus

Hey there maccafan,

with all that background in listening to Mike, I'm surprised it took you so long to find tubular.net!

I'm trying to think of any link between Macca and Mike but I'm strugggling. Can't think of anything. Suggest you stick with your nickname anyway!

Hope you enjoy it here at tb.net.

Cheers

Matt

I remember some time in the early-mid 80`s when Mike was listed in Who`s Who.I`m pretty sure he was the only rock/pop musician in there along with Paul McCartney at the time..There`s probably hundreds listed in there today,if in fact it`s still going I honestly don`t know?..You never really hear of it nowadays.

Also quite a number of the musicians who worked on Mike`s QE2 album have also worked with Paul McCartney..And these are off the top of my head so there may be more..David Hentschel(Red Rose Speedway),Phil Collins(Press To Play),Guy Barker(Flowers In The Dirt),Morris Pert(Back To The Egg)..Yeah I`m a Maccafan as well       :p Great to see another one here.

How right you are Dirk.He was the only other rock musician in Who's Who!And when some one who worked on it was asked why the reply was "well he is someone everyone has heard of isn't he?".Lol.Not really a massive Macca fan as i always preferred Lennon and Harrison so i didn't know all those people had worked with him.Morris Pert worked with him?One of my favourite Oldfield collaborators.Wonderful drummer.

Here's a link to a Macca (fan) - Makka Pakka - my favourite character from In the Night Garden.

Actually the opening tune (on the boat) is pretty cool: -

Hello All

A new member (since Thursday) though an MO fan since Xmas 1978 (aged 16) . I can still remember having my Record Vouchers for Xmas that year and seeing the advert for Incantations, and then travelling back from Worcester to Milford Haven with my parents and my Record Vouchers and then visiting Woolworths during a break at Swansea and proudly walking back to the station with my copy of Incantations.

Incantations is still very special to me, even after 30 years, then of course was the excitement to find out wether this bloke had written anything else. A visit to my local record store and the owner telling me that she only had a copy of his last album, called Ommadawn, so after recovering from the brilliance of that album (the hairs still stand up on the back of my neck when I hear the Uillean pipe sequence), I then saw him live for the one and only time at The Colston Hall in Bristol in 1980 (I still have the sweatshirt !!;)

I now have the entire collection on C.D. and I can honestly say that I can listen to any of M.O.'s albums, but Incantaions Ommadawn and Amarok are my Desert Island CD's.

Best wishes to all members.

Hello, dazzler is my name.

When I was a teenager I adored Mike Oldfields music.
I collected all his albums and singles until The Voyager.
That album made me lose interest in Mike's music.

My brother keeps on bying every new album.
But I don't like his music anymore ... he got boring somehow.

Today I still enjoy his Virgin backcatalogue.
The news that his albums would be rereleased again
by Universal with some additional bonus material made me curious.
So that's why I'm here. To catch up with the past.

I just read on this forum that Tubular Bells deluxe
is based on a newly remixed version and even the bonus tracks
are revamped in the studio ... I'm so disappointed (again) ...

I never bought the HDCD remasters, because they
lack lots of good bonus material (I have everything on vinyl
from 1973-1991) ... and now once again the Tubular Bells
release is screwed up by adding and remixing ...

So I still hope some of the other Virgin albums will be remastered
in their original versions with original bonus tracks.

MY PERSONAL CHART

01. Tubular Bells
02. Ommadawn
03. Crises
04. Discovery

05. Amarok
06. Hergest Ridge
07. Incantations
08. Islands

09. QE2
10. Five Miles Out
11. Heaven's Open
12. Platinum
13. Earth Moving

I hope I won't be shot for not loving his more recent work.

Are you being straight up with us when you say that anything since (including Voyager) bores you?

You appear to know (and enjoy) everything he's ever done up to this point - even all the bonus material and every little dittie or silly song.

Are you saying that all his subsequent material doesn't interest you at all: -

TBIII
Guitars
TMB
Tr3s Lunas
TB2003
L+S
and MoTS ??

(Assuming you like TBII and TSoDE)
