Hi, my name is Dave and I'm a Mike Oldfield fan... Ooops, wrong meeting...
Seriously though, I'm in southern Ontario (Canada) and I first heard Mike on a 'progressive' FM station in Toronto when 'TB' debuted in 1973. They had already introduced a group called 'Emerson Lake & Palmer back in 1971 plus another British invader, Jethro Tull.
My personal claim-to-fame is I am the ONLY person in North America who has NEVER seen 'The Exorcist' and so, have no pre-conceived associations with it and 'TB'. I was able to listen and share Mike's opus without prejudice and probably bored the p!ss out of my friends at the time.
I missed Mike's one and only appearance in Toronto (U of T's Convocation Hall, IIRC) but did see ELP twice (Pictures at an Exhibition & Pirates).
Mike's music helped ease me through so very hard personal times. A happy recollection is standing in line for a show called 'Lazarium' (a laser-light show) in 1992 for the premiere of Mikes 'TBII' and getting a free copy of the premier CD.
I enjoy a wide variety of music but I can thank him directly for Philip Glass, Pekka Pohjala and Pierre Moerlen's (NOT Daevid Allen's) 'Gong'. Sally Oldfield's 'Water Bearer' was played separately on the same radio station (CFNY for those who care) and I have those as well. Pekka's 'Mathematician's Air Display' was actually promo'd by local DJ David Marsden (formerly Dave Mickie of AM fame). He's out in B.C. now but his influence is not forgotten. I got the Pekka vinyl disc asap but had to get his later stuff on CD (although there's nothing wrong with that).
'M.A.D.' has just been re-released on CD (through Amazon, I'm expecting delivery on Monday) but I've been enjoying it (and some MO vinyl odd-ball releases) thanks to that new-fangled turntable with the USB plug.
Cheers, Dave

G'day Dave welcome to the boards.
It took me a while to join up too, I have some family in Canada but have never made the trip over.
Hope to one day.
My Uncle Al Serwa played in The Cooper Brothers ever herd of them.
Apart from TB 1/2 any other MO albums rock your boat.
Cheers .

EGADS!
Thank the Great Maker that pencils have erasers and forums have edit buttons.
Can Tubenets two biggest pot stirrers (stop smiling Wiga) form an alliance?
The Tubularverse shudders at the very thought.
You know what Cooper you're a bit like me either loved or loathed but thats the cost of humour hey.
You're OK in my book.
Finally I can say Welcome to the board   :)
Now where is Silver.

Also sorry to Dave for high-jacking his thread.

My god, I didn't see this coming. Milamber and Cooper Roy. This is going to have the same effect on the forums as mixing matter and antimatter did in that Star Trek episode. All I can think to do is grab the popcorn and watch it all go to hell. ;)

:D   Now behave boys or I may have to get firm!
I hadn't disappeared Ive just been busy, boring stuff really.

On a different note I heard two Mike Oldfield songs on the Hampshire radio station 'The Coast' today, one was 'Man In The Rain' and the other was 'Family Man.'  Not that I'm complaining but I thought 'since when' as most of the radio stations didn't bother.

Actually this alliance could work, like the Cameron and Clegg (UK's P.M. and Deputy) - partnership. Strong, revolutional and resolute.   :(  :p oi
