The movie is about an observer who is studying wolves in Alaska or Greenland, don't excately know. But in the movie this observer is talking with an eskimo who is living there, and the eskimo talks about his experience with a wolf. The wolf is his "spirit protector", which he calls Amarok!! Now, I don't know if this is already discussed with finding out what the name Amarok means... I have read many theories, from Am a rock to "morning", but it is highly possible Mike took this word from this movie. Ugo Group: Members Posts: 5495 Joined: April 2000 Posted: Nov. 26 2000, 17:45 I think there is something among the FAQ on this site saying that Mike was watching a documentary about the Inuits (the Eskimos), he heard the word Amarok (which means simply 'wolf' in the Inuit language, without any religious or mystical connotations, and it's actually written Amaroq) and he liked both its sound and its meaning. P.S. There also is a website, www.amaroknet.com, belonging to a wall & ceiling contractors firm. Its 'About' page says much the same about the wolf thing. On the other hand, what follows is quoted from www.amarok.com, which also has not-so-much to do with Mike Oldfield. Quote Amarok.com was first put up back in 1996. The word "Amarok" comes from the fantasic Mike Oldfield album of that name. The word "Amarok" is actually an english phonetic translation of the gaelic word "Amarach" which means "Tomorrow".
