Right. It had to happen sooner or later.
About 7 years ago I made a sandwich that was utter heaven. It had 5 main ingredients:
Onion Branston Pickle Peanut Butter Ham Cheese
Now this, in the order of: butter scraped first, then peanut butter (I can't just spread the peanutty stuff straight onto the bread! then cheese, then the pickle, then the ham, then the onion. It was gorgeous. Honestly, you should go and try and make it yourself.
Upon successive attempts to recreate this wonderful sandwich, I never quite managed to reproduce the initial experience. I got to wondering why that was...
Was it because when I first ate it, I was experiencing the anticipation associated with experimentation? Or maybe because I was more hungry 7 years ago? I don't know.
Maybe successive permutations made me mess up the order. Maybe the peanut butter goes on the TOP slice, not the bottom. To be honest, I can't remember precisely, because it was too long ago. So, all I can do is dig around in the back shelf occasionally for my Branston and Peanut butter and relive (but not revitalise) the experience in part.
