As promised yesterday: my first recording!
I haven't done anything but recording it, putting it in ogg format en spending two hours thinking about which password I used for uploading. :D But I'm uploading it right now, for all to hear!

It's a little preview of Ommadawn for Piano. It hasn't got much serious practise, so don't expect a magnificent performance. I just couldn't resist uploading it. :)
Little question: does everyone hear noise at about 1:58, or is it just my boxes?

It's certainly an interesting idea, though I personally find the speed which it's played back almost disturbing!

Something definitely goes wrong - the piano distorts quite heavily. I can only assume that it's distorting somewhere at the input stage then being brought down in level later (perhaps by a digital gain control?) as the level of the file is nowhere near maximum.
Overall it sounds very nice, though. It has a slightly dull and distant sound (a kind of boxy quality), which you may or may not be able to improve by repositioning the microphone - I think that's mostly down to room acoustics. A tiny pinch of EQ seems to help a bit as well.

Anyway, keep experimenting, you're getting good results!

Oooh, nice playing, too bad I will never be able to play like that :)
Pretty good, accept for the poor sound quality.

And what's the deal with that huge bitrate? I mean, jesus christ, nominal bitrate 500kbps? you could go lossless with that. -q 0 setting is enough for previewing.

80 kbps or quality 1.00 is plenty for encoding OGGs with. It's all I use on all of my tracks I've posted here.

About the music....yes I think it's too fast, too. Also sounds sped up. Is that true? If not, good playing! But it's interesting hearing what you've done different with it from the original piece. GJ.

It isn't sped up. I haven't done anything with it but recording and putting it in ogg. :)

Sorry about the bitrate. I know actually nothing about ogg, except that my codec for ogg works and the one for mp3 doesn't. :D

It indeed sounds to fast, doesn't it. I personally think that it's due to my acceleration on the primes. It gives really a hurry feel to it. I'll try to get a constant rhythm, and if it still sounds to fast then, then I'll slow it down.

I'm gonna play a bit with my mike. Cheers to everyone!

Download OGGDropXPD from www.vorbis.com. It's the best OGG encoder, IMO, and it's by Vorbis themselves. And it works well. Just drag and drop.

Alright. I've played a bit with the mike's position, and with the virtual equaliser, trying to let it sound less dull (mainly by giving the lower tones a boost). It's still to fast, though. But there's no noise anymore (well, almost).  I changed the link above. It also has a way lower bitrate.

Anything else I should take into consideration?

@ Brandon: What's so good about OGGDropXPD? Is it just that it's easy to use, or something else?

Glad you like my piano playing. :) But when you say there's to much bass, are you referring to a specific part in the song, or just in general?

Hmm... didn't expect that. Anyone else has a problem with the bass tones?

I hate to say this, but I think that aside from the distortion, I preferred the sound of your first recording :O

Keep going, though...

Strange... subjectiveness can do strange things to people (me).

I guess I'll do a third and last recording of it (the preview, that is), then.

Allright, last shot.

A Preview of Ommadawn for Piano.

It has a quieter tempo, I didn't touch the bass, but I didn't manage to work away all of the distortion. And I tried mp3 for a change.

Don't worry, this is the last one.  :D

Very impressive. I haven't heard the previous versions but this one sounds ok.
Now to wait for the full version... (Are you gonna do part 2 as well?)
