Let's compile a list of all the styles Mike has incorporated into his music over the years!
I could of course put a huge list right at the beginning, but then I'd be taking the whole fun out of the topic, so I'll just start out with two very obvious ones:
Classical music and (Irish) Folk.

Ommadawn 12-bar Blues???

Yea, Mike did a blues version of Ommadawn. It can be found on the "I Met A Sweet Senora In Barcelona"-bootleg.

There's the 'blues' bit on Amarok, with the slide guitar, as well.

Despite the fact that B.Blues is meant to be a tribute to B.B.King, I'd never have called it blues if he'd not put the word in the title...

Is it not obvious?

Another one: late 70s disco stuff.

Mike says there's heavy metal in Crises. That's not even close to heavy metal. Heavy metal is not always crazy guitars (not that I'm an expert, but I do know that HM artists don't write the music just to go nuts for the heck of it).

Rock and Roll (Beginning of The Lake, and that slightly quiet part on Amarok where the guitars are playing and a chainsaw suddenly rips out real loud). And Dance and Techno.

I know, but I personally think there are pieces in Crises which are heavy metal.

By the way, remember "Outcast"? ;)

It depends how heavy metal is defined...I mean, back at the time of Crises, Van Halen (just to pick out one example) were releasing stuff that didn't sound a million miles away from it, and people called that heavy metal.

One point I'd certainly disagree on - I know plenty of people who write and play heavy metal just for the fun of going nuts ;)

I don't consider that heavy metal. I consider that rock. I see a difference.

Well I stand corrected then. But usually from what I've heard it's written for the releasing of emotions.

But still, you can't deny that there are pieces of music, which people call heavy metal, included in Mike's music. :)
