Mike was interviewed on Sky News this afternoon.

He was asked about his reasons for leaving the UK and his future plans. He said he's currently unsure whether he will retire or record more albums.

Thanks, Neil Ince and ThisName

From Amarok list,a quick review from Pat Gleeson:

Quote
The 5 min. interview began at 1.50pm, during the breaking news of Heather
Mills' £24 millions divorce settlement with Sir Paul Mc Cartney. When Mike
was asked what he thought, he said the Sir Paul made a mistake :-)

Over still pictures of Mike 'Tubular Bells' was played, and then a clip from
the MOTS promo was shown.

Kay Burley aked him the backgroung to Mots, Mike answering that it was the
first piece he has composed from scatch as a classical piece, and explained
how Karl Jenkins transposed Mikes score to a classical score.

Kay then asked Mike why he left the UK, he sais many, many reasons, but
settled on two: the weather (the floods last year), and the smoking ban.

Kay asked if he misses us, and he said that it was nice to come back, but he
could keep in tuch via Sky News.

He didn't agree with the view that there was a big cultural difference
between countries , human being are the same everywhere, and he talked about
baby Eugene, and gave a tip : make sure the baby finishes his bottle, so he
will sleep through the night - good advice :-)

He gave a strong hint that this would be his last new recording, which drew
a surprised reaction from Kay, and he said at the very least it would be a
few years before anything else would appear, a classical follow up, or maybe or a heavy metal album :-)

I wasn't able to post the review here for some reason.
Thanks Tati for uploading the text for me.

:)

I think in all seriousness Mike was only joking regarding the heavy metal album, but as he said, you never know with him

:)

He was deadly serious about this being - maybe - his last album, or best case senario there will be a long wait for the next.

who here believes that mike will retire?.  he said the same thing after voyager was released and he changed his mind.  now that the new album has done well in the charts that might make him think again.
