Quote (Ugo @ Mar. 18 2009, 21:31) | @ Dirk: I don't really care about Hayley's album being a compilation, I have it and I love it. For me a compilation, when it's done as well as this, is a very nice starting point for one (like me) who owns nothing of an artist's output. Compilations start becoming bad when there are too many of 'em and the tracks are just assembled together - not really "chosen".
Also (and please forgive me for saying this) I think that dissing every album in a category except for the one that you are a fan of - just because you are a fan of that album and not of the others - is very unsportsmanlike (as Roy Batty would've put it ) and very un-fan-like. If you really are a fan of Mike's who appreciates classical music, then, after having voted for Mike, you shouldn't say anything at all about the other candidates. At least this is how I see it. [By the way, as far as I know the current line-up of the Rolling Stones features FOUR original members, not three.] However, when I saw River of Dreams among the candidates, I was almost (and I say ALMOST! ) tempted to vote for it. But I voted for MotS. |
Well nothing against Hayley Ugo,but imo a compilation is not an original work that`s all there is to it.As far as I`m aware they don`t allow compilations to be considered in the ordinary Brits, but I could be wrong.
As for the "unsportsmanlike" stuff, well I was just trying to have a little joke there really.Maybe it got lost in translation a little, and probably just as well on my part I decided to self-edit most of it anyway. That said as soon as I saw the list of some of the albums Mike is up against there,I have to say I kind of despaired a little.Even though I basicaly already knew the "type" of "classical" music that was going to be on there anyway. But you know how many of those other artists actualy composed the music on the album etc?Does Mike Oldfield look like he should even be there to you?At the end of the day I can`t say I`m too familiar with the rest of the people on the list so I`ll say no more on the matter.I voted for Mike, and I hope he wins. But if he does`nt win I shall neither be surprised or dissapointed.
Ronnie Wood was not an original member of The Rolling Stones btw, even though he kind of looks like he should be.Which in my book leaves Mick,Charley & Keef..With dear old Brian Jones departed and Bill Wyman playing the blues or something. In actual fact I don`t think Mick Jagger was there from day one,so there are really now only two original members still in the band.Sorry to be pedantic there..
