Mike did try introducing the instruments himself for Tubular Bells II.
I also think that Patrick Moore would have been great.

On friday last week I have heard new Tubular Bells 2003 !!! Whole album is great including John Cleese's section ! He's really funny :-)))

So there were already links between them. Maybe Mike thought about JC because of this ?

Listening to the interview right now, the MC part, John Cleese, he is great, "Mandolin" sounds so funny, the music is great, fantastic, ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ppy!!!!!!
