Yep (well, it's not that he SHOULD, but it would be nice)

Something in the style of Crises please! :)

Mike actually asked this at the Tubular Bells 2003 press conference in Spain. "I can do either" he said, offering long or short pieces. The vote was for long...

Seems he decided that even though it's what modern listeners to his music seem to want to hear, the format is too old fashioned, too bound to the 70s. Being bound to the 70s didn't seem to stop him from re-recording Tubular Bells of course, but I think we're not meant to question Mike's logic like that. ;)

I do agree that it would be a good idea, though.

I would love the concept of a long 20 minute composition and say 5-6 shorter "songs" - instrumental or not. Just like Crises, Islands, FMO etc.

On both styles Mike can create great music, that's what I do care  ;)

I actually like both styles so don't really care which he does.  I just hope he continues to write and record for many years to come.

I was thinking about this. I could easily say, sure, whatever. Whatever style...whatever makes Mike happy. And on most levels I'd even mean it. But....in my heart of hearts, I wish  he would do something very, very long--even by 70's standards. Complicated, layered, relational, woven into a brand new tapastry design. I want to be wrapped in it and transported where no one has gone before (hmmmm....am I getting this mixed up with the Star Trek intro??) . :D
I want the length of the 70's combined with the now.

I like to feel that an album has some kind of cohesion to it, but I don't mind how that's achieved. Tr3sLunas is highly coherent in an imaginative sense, even though it consists of separate pieces, and that never fails to delight me in a very satisfying way.

I suppose I've yet to find that coherence in L&S - it seems like a kind of catch-all of bits and pieces, and I do find it loses something from that. But basically I don't know how to vote on this one.

I think "Surfing" flows right into "Tears of an Angel", but that is all the cohesiveness or connection I can find.

I definitely vote for the longer tracks - as long as possible :-) I disagree that it's a 70s thing. It wasn't a 70s thing until Mike made it so with Tubular Bells. He can make it a 2000+ thing :-)

I do like many of Mike's shorter works but it was really the longer instrumentals that flowed on seamlessly for ages with valley moments and mountainous crescendos that made me fall in love with Mike's music. I love the buildup and layering of intricate, beautiful themes/melodies with the destinctive guitar riffs and multitudinous sounds and surprises hidden in the mix.

Roll on the longer works

I would like to hear a long piece that goes thru a variety of styles such as acoustic, new age, chill out, trance, and rock. It would also be nice without the acoustic, new age, chill out ,and rock part. ;)

I think long pieces would be good again - but broken into shorter parts. if that makes sense.

For example, i still consider TSODE a one huge long 60+ min experience. but having it broken down into shorter parts is great, so i can skip to certain parts.

much like TB2003, i like being able to easily skip to certain parts - so i don't have to hold down the search button for eons. or have to keep skipping w/ the curser on winamp or WMP or something.

Hmmmmmmm, I would like to hear a long piece since I listen to an album all the way through irregardless of the lenght of the tracks. Whatever it is, just bring on the keyboards!
