Amazon.com ranks the two imports around 4,000 and 12,000 on the sales list. Way to go, Mercury! Your non-promotion program is a success. You are meeting your US goals!

The ODD thing is that Amazon.com has chosen to pair "L+S" with the SACD of Roger Waters' "CA IRA".

I wonder how far down the list a CD can go?

Has Mike done any tv or radio interviews to promote it?

There is a review of L+S in this months record collector. Not surprisingly its not to positive (to put it mildly) 'music for people who don't like music and can't appreciate music' or words to that effect. It also points out the all the things that made Mike's earlier albums so good are gone entirely from L+S. AMEN to that.

LOL and to think Katie Melua would have undoubtedly had a good review, what would that mag make of rap music or thrash metal I wonder  ;)

I think Record Collector is actually one of the more respected magazines in the UK scene, or am I wrong?

Well it is but a a lot of the main UK music magazines like Q, Mojo, Word, Uncut and Record Collector share a similar critical pool. That is you get a lot of the same names cropping up in the different magazines. It would be wrong to assume they're not fairly informed people and most of the magazines get critics who actually like a certain genre of music to review an album in that genre. Something which has contributed to Mike's  critical slamming over the years because what genre is he in? Instrumental rock chillout ambient newage pop? Yes we've got a critic who specialises in and is sympathetic to that.

I would certainly say Record Collector is renowned for its open minded approach, it reflects its readers tastes rather than trying to shape them, something which Q is certainly guilty of.

But a comment like that isn't indicative of an open-minded approach, is it? Sounds like bigoted intolerance to me.

No review again in this months Mojo magazine but Uncut have a ever so slightly sympathetic review giving it two stars out of five. It gives Mike credit for trying a modern approach  and not being the boring old prog rock foggy everybody thinks he is. The review says the album is full of  lush melodies but is so over produced that everything sounds utterly soulless.

A fair point really.
