Kanye West's new album, "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" opens with the (sort of) title track, "Dark Fantasy", which samples the "can we get much higher?" line from "In High Places".

I thought I might be the first (and only) person to notice that and post here... haha!

Mind you, this youtube clip cuts off the (rather amazing) intro :P

I am not a fan of Kanye personally but a hiphop artist sampling Mike Oldfield -- and NOT Tubular Bells introduction bit -- is sort of automatically interesting to me! There's more progressive rock on the album, and one of the songs sounds like Philip Glass (with raps)...

Yes, I found it all very interesting. I would have thought they'd use something more popular like TB. How have they heard of "In High Places" - hidden on side 2 of Crises - must be a MO fan then?? Or maybe they googled a song about 'getting higher' - they only wanted the one line.

I actually believe West deserves more credit than you'd be willing to give him. He's apparently been quite into progressive rock, and there is more evidence on the record, there's King Crimson on "POWER" for instance.

I'm just surmising - I don't know anything about Kanye West, except that he's an American rapper. It would be cool if it turns out he's a real live MO fan (or Yes fan).

I'm also surmising about him using only the one line from the the "In High Places" song - I'm wondering if his rapping is about getting 'high' - if he's using it in that context?
