The vocals on The Millennium Bell are the most classical in style on any of Mike's albums - that's probably why I, who come from a classical background, can relate to them more than a lot of listeners, who come from a rock/pop background.

As for forcing Sweetpea, it may be possible. Threaten to lock her in a room of endless piano sonatas until she agrees that "Santa Maria" is triff!

@ Daniel/nightspore: aren't the choir & solo vocals on MotS even more classical than the vocals in TMB? :D Also some vocals in TSodE sound classical to my ears.

By the way, what's "triff"? Aussie-ism for "terrific" or something like that? :p

Hi Ugo,

Agreed - I meant the contrast between classical vocals and a pop/rock context in TMB may be what spooks
people. The vocals in TSODE...? Do you mean the yodelling effects? Yodelling is classical in a way, I suppose

Actually, I believe it's the to-and-froms who mainly say "triff".

No. I mean the (fake) Gregorian monks' choir and the bits of operatic vocals floating here and there (there's one in "Let There Be Light"). These sound classical to me. :)

By the way, you still haven't explained the meaning of "triff". :D

in my humble opinion, the tracks "sunlight shining through clouds", "liberation", and last but not least "amber light" are my top three from this album :music:    and   :yinyang:

It means "terrific", Ugo, as you guessed. It seemed to crop up in British sitcoms of the 1980s (eg the programme "The Return of Shelley").

Actually "triff" predates that in the US. As in, "she has a triff bod" from the 70's. No foolin'.
