Credit for this idea goes to Tri-Oc and RushGoddess from The Rush Interactive Network (www.r-u-s-h.com).

So, here's what I found when sneaking into Mike's cellar:

- a bag of secrets (heavily used)
- a length of Guinness
- a Beginner's Guide to Exorcism
- 96 slightly distorted Electric Guitars
- Maggie Reilly (lying neglected in a corner)

If we dig deeper, I'm sure we'll find more... wink

Hmmm what else...

£34.6 million pounds worth of outdated video and studio equipment- used once only.

Richard Branson punchbag.

Herbie and his Northumbrian Pipes (he thinks Mike is going to ask him to do his Ommadawn bit any time now).

Ten 'girlfriends' left over from his lonely hearts ad all locked in separate trunks.

One long-haired wig, one false moustache and beard, one pair of flared jeans and an assortment of tie-dyed T-shirts.

Rob

- A heap of twisted metallic pipes in the corner
- A dartboard with Richard Branson's photo on
- One very old, knackered Piltdown Man, used only two and a bit times by a weird bloke who thought it would be the new influence on Western music (after the sitar had taken over in the 60s)
- lots of "real" instruments
- a lot of dust
- original pressings of every single item in his back catalogue so that he can either listen to them in pristine condition when he's 90 OR sell them and hopefully (for him) make another quick bundle
- lots of shadows on the wall
- the swallow from the Complete, stuffed and in a small display case by the guitars
- the inspiration for SVR...

You'll never guess what I found! I found a key to his basement. Under the cover of darkness I crept inside armed with only a flashlight! I swear, here's what I saw:

  • A bagful of singles, rare tracks, alternate versions, remixes and Sally. All growing cobwebs underneath his other work!!
  • Blueprints of his old house in Ibiza, including details for a secret escape route!!
  • Under an old rug, I found--noted with post-it notes as "save for a rainy day, or after they've waited long enough": Tubular Bells IV: The Creepy Side of the Bell, Amarok II, and Incantations II!
  • A calendar without a date with the words scratched across it, "Tour America"!
  • The actual inspiration to the TB cover: there's a pipe in Mike's basement that was bent in that way because lousy plumbing job!
  • The original Hergest Ridge mix, sealed in Pandora's Box. I dared not try to get it out!
  • A Piltdown Man frozen in a glass case!!
  • Barry Palmer trapped under Maggie Reilly!
  • A shadow on the wall: seemed to have a life of its own!
  • A set of shackles on the wall: the clasps broken off.
  • A letter from the people of Mars. Apparently, Tubular Bells has become quite popular there, too, and he wants to make sure those people know about the rest of his music this time!
  • His inner child. Caught up in a serpent dream.
  • A time machine, used only once duing TMB. It's set on all the wrong dates.
  • Some pictures--couldn't see what they were because they were all blackened out with dark paint.
  • Richard Branson's head on a pike!!

At the sight of this last apparition, I fled for fear of being discovered! I lived to tell the tale! I still have the key; I might go back!

Also found, scrawled on a notebook on Mike's dust-covered desk:

Mike's List of People To Get Back At (Not a Hitlist, just a Taplist)

  1. Richard Branson
  2. the Peruvian guide
  3. Richard Branson
  4. the coders at SVR
  5. numerous Amarokers, Tubular Forum Members, etc
  6. Anita Hegerland
  7. Blue Cactus
  8. Sally
  9. JMJ
  10. Richard Branson
  11. anyone else at Virgin
  12. anyone else
  13. everyone else
  14. Richard Branson

There were more pages underneath, but I didn't have time to see them- let's just say something more important came up (such as my removing myself from the area very quickly)

Taking Gareth's new posts (in some of the topics of this forum) into account, I'd say that some old tapes of Mike's interviews with him are also there.
Mike put 'em there after reading into this forum. smile

P.S. Gareth, if you're reading, I'm not going to attack you personally this time, as you do with other people. You don't deserve it.

Also found in Mike's basement:

A pile of records by Pink Floyd, Rick Wakeman, The Beatles, Sex Pistols; the latter seem to be burned around the edges.

A morning, preserved in pristine condition, with the top sawn off.

A small amount of probably illegal substances which he used to reach his Altered State.

Several synthesators, more than slightly drunk after being bribed with Guiness to sing in his later albums. (Sorry, whoever thought of this one. It was originally a typo for synthesizers.)

A large flashing neon sign, left by Tim, which read: "It's a PORNHIPE, you stupid sod, not a HORNPIPE!"

A list of other artists who still have contracts with virgin, taped onto the end of the Tap List.

After Fox found RB's head on a pike, I decided to look for the rest of his body. Sure enough, it was hiding, in a large trunk marked "Virgin Airways".

4. THE HERO.
5. WILD GOOSE FLAPPING ITS WINGS.
6. FLOWERS OF THE FOREST.
7. DON ALFONSO (probably eating fish and chips)

...I bet none of you spotted the scribbled notes for his autobiography 'For Whom The Bell Tolls 2'.

Plus, I spotted Dave Bedford in a quiet corner, busily working out the orchestral arrangements for Amarok!

...oh, and a discarded toothbrush left quite ironically in the mouth of *Branson on Pike*.

*Sounds like a quaint village in the Cotswolds where one can eat scones with fresh cream and a nice cup of tea! tongue
