Yes, thanks.  He does seem in rather chipper form, and Maconie did a good job in avoiding any of the thorny "why" questions that Mike dislikes so much.

And he pretty much confirmed he's working on new material and considering a tour, so all in all, positive news I'd say (but then I'm generally a "glass half full" kinda guy).

Bahamanian Calypso direction next???

SM clearly has no interest in fish, the way he quickly changes the subject!

I wondered what got re-matered then - just the 2 track mix down?
What woukd have been interesting would have been a 5.1 mix of the bits he could find and issued as bonus much like the lost version of Ommadawn

Quote (Mat Cochrane @ July 26 2011, 18:04)
The mixes are still around but they couldn't find all the original multitracks and/or some of them were unplayable. So they couldn't pull the original mix apart to do a new 5.1 mix.

I suspect this kind of thing might happen more and more the further through the back catalogue we go.

Actually you'd have thought that it would have been the first three (ie older) albums that would have been the most affected by the ravages of time, wouldn't you?  I was surprised that he could remix the first three, but not Incantations.  Disappointed too.

@ Matt, thanks a lot for the transcript. The player on the BBC site says "Not available in your area"... :(... so I have no chance at all to actually hear the interview, so thanks once again for having taken all the trouble of writing it down.

If you are overseas, like me, and want to listen on the BBC site, there is a way...  ;)

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/chart/update/radio1/chart/update/albums.mp#entry10

If this has worked (on my mobile so heaven knows) you'll link to the BBC's midweek chart.  Not quite Top 30 and my weekend purchase will hopefully help it up a bit but it's classic Mike in the Top 40.  What's wrong with this picture?!

BBC RADIO outside the Uk works fine as I said in an earlier post here (PAGE 1!;) I am in Greece (not the skin condition) the country & nightspore is in OZ so if he could get it there where off Earth are you, its only TV that's a problem, I got satellite and had it on comp via, MEDIA PLAYER & recorded to hard drive of set top box via sat TV/RADIO, no probleMO.

Any one who needs help please you have only to ask.

Okay, it didn't.  I cut and I pasted but some aspect of mobility did not agree with something.  Now at a common or garden computer and try this for size.  Same questions apply :)

Not entirely clear what it is you want us to acknowledge as wrong, unless it's that they're using the classic front cover.

@ CJJC: I guess Cavalier refers to the fact that it's a bit unusual, right now in 2011, to see a classic Mike Oldfield record in the top 40. :D :p

CJJC and Ugo - to quote Homer Simpson again: "You're both right" :)

I found the reported chart positions for last year's releases difficult to believe, but have been pleasantly surprised at the news Simmo2005 broke.  I'll be heading into the big city tomorrow to see if I can find a copy.  The irony is that if the sales figures (mostly pre-sales I assume) hold up, then HMV would have been paying attention to the midweeks and may have ordered in a few copies for every store -including mine - so that number 3? in the chart display next week is not empty.  In which case a few more casual sales may occur :)

Much thanks to Matt for transcribing Mike's interview, which came across with Mike sounding very affable and positive.
Great stuff!
