Haven't we been here before? Wasn't the original 1978 Incantations supposedly mixed in quad - but never saw the light.

And now its supposedly been mixed in 5.1 - but where is it?

Cann;t say Im straining at the Leash to go out and buy the Thing.   The Samples of the 2011 remixes didn't do much to inspire either.. I guess Its a Contract Obligation being Fulfilled and thats about it Really...

What? Don't you know that Mike Oldfield is famous jazzman?
Haven't you heard Tubular Jazz, Herr Jazz Ridge, Ommajazz or Injazztations?

They probably calculated that it will sell more being #4 in boring Jazz than, I don't know, #404 where nobody would find it, behind several editions of Pink Floyd releases gathered together in Progressive.

its always been an issue for Mike oldfield - back in the 70's the shops had no idea where to put him and I always had to look everywhere, jazz, classical, folk, and would eventually find him dumped somewhere.  Personally I would put him in "easy listening" but I guess that sounds demeaning??  "Easy but great listening" would be better, if there were such a thing.

Anyway personally I'm looking forward to this release.  Anyone else?

Yes I'm looking forward it. Remastered Incantations with some proper previously un-released music, what's not to look forward to?! Remixes, 5.1 and the like are not standard practice, to be totally fair we've been spoilt so far. When I was growing up I was always told "you get what you're given!", I don't think you can say anything fairer than that.

INJASSTATIONS
sounds a bit to much like the ears equivalent of the digestions disorder (indigestion), that SOUNDS PAINFUL 2 ME!! maybe you could have a 2 disc set with songs like ; tum tums, renegade & zantac 4 easy consumption.
Or is this the period of time that a piece of music is in when it is developing, a bit like being in gestation?, if so a album called INCUBATIONS in quadruplet, twin disc set would be full of warm sounds.
DID SOMEONE SLIP ME A PILL?.

Pink Floyd's "Atom Heart Mother" is a bit like that - a journey through a cow  :D

And it's odd how James Joyce keeps occurring to me lately, considering I haven't read him in years, but the "Oxen of the Sun" chapter in Ulysses is a kind of gestation of literary styles, mirroring the birth event that the characters are awaiting.

Has anyone else noticed that "Piano Improvisations" is very similar to "First Steps" basic piano riff, on L&S?

Hmmm, not really. Maybe they are the same chords?

What I've noticed on the "Diana" track is the typical sound of the "sucking" strings on the ARP String Ensemble. I've owned this synthesizer in 2002, and there's a setting in which it gives this "sucking string" sound when you hit another key or chord. But I didn't like it and I just used the release function, and you'd get this nice reverb sound.

And it may be my imagination, but does "Guilty" sound slowed down? Or maybe my record player had the wrong configuration all this time!    :p

Hmm maybe we share the same imagination. Indeed it seems slower. I'll put on my blue vinyl single and try it out.
But it really reminds me when I slowed the recording from 7 1/2 to 3 3⁄4 ips on my tape.

I have heard all the extracts from the remixes on Disc 2 and  for sure Northumbrian, Piano Improvisation and Diana are new pieces. I especially like Northumbrian which is obviously a remix of an out take with Paddy Maloney so really looking forward to hearing  the whole thing. Has anyone seen the artwork other than the front cover yet?

I think the Northumbrian musician might be 'Herbie' who was credited with playing northubrian bagpipes on the original Ommadawn LP sleeve. His contribution never made the original release only seeing the light of day on the Ommadawn Lost version on the 2010 Ommadawn reissue.

Obviously? I for one don't know if Paddy is involved at all in the track, especially when what you hear in the sample sounds like a synth rather than a real bagpipe. Anyway if Paddy is later in the track that'll be great
