I bought it new when it first came out. No poster.

I know I've seen this discussion before--maybe over on the Amarok Mailing List. Mine didn't include it either, and here are the notes from Richard's discography @ http://tubular.net/discography/Incantations.shtml :

"....However, there are pictures different to the cover (one inside the 1979 tour brochure and another was issued as a poster, included with early pressings of the Incantations LP)..."

I acquired my vinyl fairly early, but apparently not soon enough. :/

I was one of the lucky one. I bought the lp back in 1978 and was surprised to find a poster of the album cover inside.

Much as I liked the poster I never put it up on my wall, and has now long since bitten the dust

My avatar is from an advertisement for Incantations. I think it's a different photo from both the album and poster.

I'd been wondering about that, Taurus 4. In fact, there was mention of your av recently in a thread elsewhere. After researching a bit, I think I have found the image in full: here, which looks to be, as you've said, a different shot from the one used for the album cover.

Thanks for showing us what the poster looks like.
And it looks wonderful!

heheh... Funny what it says:
"There's more to Mike then 4 guitarist, 5 percussionist... etc..."
Indeed there's more, they forget the Tubular Bells!

That's the one! I suppose it proves he was standing on the beach at one time or another... ;)

Virgin's campaigns in the 70s were dreadful. I remember some ad for one of Edgar Froeses solo albums that made some terrible joke about Edgar being and "airhead" or something like that.

I've been having the Incantations CD lying in my car for a couple of weeks, glacing down on it while I'm stuck at red lights. It's one of the most terrible record sleeves I have ever seen. And, as someone said, we know that it's Jean-Michel Jarre on that picture!

Hehehe...  :)

*says in a very quiet voice*: Actually,
I have to admit I really like the cover...
:O

I think it's alright. My vinyl edition's been propped up by the record player next to my desk for ages and it looks far better than the CD version. I definitely like the location; it isn't particularly evocative of the music but it still has an enigmatic appeal. ;)

Now what's that box on the advertisement?

Is that the poster in question? I have no idea, myself - I just linked that image because I was excited about finding MO's feet.

Thanks, Taurus 4. I like that image - I think it works better as a panoramic view. I am now feeling sorry for New Incantation, who once had it in possession but allowed it to disintegrate.  :( *

Now what's that box on the advertisement?

It's quite mysterious, isn't it? A partially buried metal detector? An RC Jeep? A lunchbox filled with assorted cheeses?

Hehe. Could that be the reason for Mike going blonde?

MO albums should be on vinyl again, and come with a great big poster, just like David Gilmours new lp :)

I don't want to have to buy a turntable, but I'd love a poster.

It's an electric wall socket... attached to a wall with a big painting of a beach on it...

the conspiracy thickens... final proof that Mike never landed on that beach...!
