Quote (Ugo @ June 30 2010, 19:34) | Quote (wiga @ June 26 2010, 19:55) | The loud 'banjo' strum, stuck right bang in front of one of the best bass lines ever, is like a two minute sabotage. That bass line is the highlight of the show for me- and so I'll carry on playing the original versions. |
Please, both of you guys (flippyshark & wiga), go have a good listen (and I really, really mean a GOOD listen) to the 5.1 mix - preferably with a good amp, a good setup and a good subwoofer. Then you'll realize that what you call the "jangly guitar" is not too loud at all, it fits perfectly in the mix, and it does not absolutely obscure that bass line - which, in my very humble opinion, is not that fantastic at all. Mike did much better ones, even recently - check out "Angelique" from L+S. |
Ugo; yes, I've had a good listen, in the car, in the house - on a good sound system. The banjo/mandolin/jangly guitar coming in at 12.12 - is loud and overpowering for a full two minutes. It annhilates the bass rif. Why?
For me, the bass line is central to the story - it's like it's really talking to you, and then it gets rudely interrupted by this brassy guitar, - for what appears no other reason than to draw attention to itself.
If the bass line here isn't particularly that significant to you Ugo then the guitar might not jar as much.
