Greetings from Australia,
I have been visiting this site as a guest for a  couple of years now. I just wanted to say that this is a fantastic site and I love reading your forums...you folk are just so passionate about Mikes music (and many other things too)...it's great.
My name is Derek, I'm an aussie and I've been listening to Mike's music since I was a boy..my older brothers obsession with Tubular bells was the starting point for me...
I play guitar and I love many genres of music...
I would love to meet up with any fans from Australia

Peace and Happiness
:)

Welcome Changeling.
You had the same starting point as me. I blame my older brother for buying Tubular Bells in 1973. I have been addicted ever since.

Hi Changeling,

my elder brother had a copied tape of Tubular Bells which he didn't like and swapped it for a new blank tape of mine (the fool!;). Listening to that while being forced to spend a day tidying my room aged about 9 was my introduction!

Welcome Changeling,

I first heard Mikes music about 1976/7 I remember at my infants school I heard Portsmouth and In Dulci Jubilo in school assembly, I've always loved those songs :D but had no idea 'til many years later they were by Mike, and of course I remember seeing Tubular Bells, but I didn't appreciate the music until later on. Then when I was 11/12 Moonlight Shadow was a UK no 4 hit.

I too play the guitar  :O ,well at least try to. I guess "The Zimmers"  a group of pensioners that ROCK BIG TIME   with their cover of The Who's My Generation are proof that you're never too old to rock and roll   .

Welcome from me too. Although I'm a Brit, there is a strong group of Aussie fans, who I know will be making your aquaintence soon.

Enjoy your time here, especially now we have so much activity, what with last years NOTP shows, the book, new album and Mike popping up all over the media.

Hello Derek, welcome, in
Australia, down below.
I have a question - something that
I'd really like to know

about Mike Oldfield's album
(the one of most renown):
on all Australian versions, does
the bell hang upside down?

Greetings,
Nice to meet you all!
Its interesting to hear your stories on how you first were introduced to Mike's music..
To me it feels like its a constant journey of new discoveries & levels of understanding listening to Mike..even as the years pass you can still go back over albums and have new experiences...
How cool is that!

I'm not sure what you mean Alan, as far as I knew our Bell was always the right way up...and everyone else's was upside down!!
 ;)

Hey Derek,

I'm an Adelaide girl, originally from NSW.

Used to come in here every single day until I got addicted to You Tube.

@Galadriel. The Zimmers are on You Tube. A very popular member Peter (Geriatric1927) who I subscribe to, is one of The Zimmers. Aren't they great, the lead singer is 90 years old!

Check me out in You Tube, same username, and join me in MSN chat anytime you feel inclined. tubulartracy@hotmail.com

WELCOME to tubularnet.

Tracy.

Yep I see lead singer Alf has become a bit of an unlikely sex symbol  ;)   :) . I'm just waiting for the album, how about a cover of The Rolling Stones' ( I Can't Get No) Satisfaction, I'd like to see Alf cover Jumpin' Jack Flash, Led Zeppelin's  Whole Lotta Love, or David Bowie's   Ch-ch-ch-ch Changes :).
