Just when you thought that you've seen all..
Just for curiosity (it was only 1EUR), I picked up that single at a local 2nd-hand-shop - to find inside a folded 'and that's an FACT' sheet by Virgin Germany!
Hasty translation from German:
Reggae-drums, Rasta-guitars and Michael's rocky voice are the surprising trademarks of the second single "Gimme Back" from Michael Oldfield's current album "Heaven's Open". Among the Reggae-rhythm, which is rather unusual for Oldfield, his distorted guitar, which we know so well since "Tubular Bells", flashes in again and again. You can tell that Michael Oldfield has written "Gimme Back" on Barbados: from sunshine-feeling and live athmosphere, he creates a timeless-nostalgic sound, to which Mickey Simmonds adds a special accent with his Hammond-organ.
P.S.: They also had a copy of Ommadawn in quite heavy vinyl, including 'In Dulci Jubilo' as bonus track - guess I will get this also, since I currently only have the 'Boxed' (quadrophonic) version...

Was the single version any different to the album edit, and what were the b-sides? I have just about all of Mike's singles - apart from this one! Thanks!

The single is quite the same as the album version, except that it fades out around 3:35, so the final part is missing.
The B-Side is an excerpt from Amarok, approx. 34:30-37:50
(Slow Waltz, Lion Reprise, Mandolin Reprise 1)
According to the discography, the 12" version has a second excerpt from Amarok on the B-side, and both were only released in Germany.
