Well done Booster, it shows that you are capable of more than trance compositions.
If it isn't a secret, what did you use for the effects? Khoa told me that you help out in a studio that has a Roland GR-33, but the tones here sounded like they were coming from genuine single-coils. Here are my comments
The music itself is quite ambient and laid back. I like the feel. Was this the actual Portishead track or did you create the backing too?
In the first piece the flanger/delay was effective, but don't let this have greater importance over the improvised material. The delay puts greater pressure on playing in time as if you get the intial note out of time, the rest are effected too
The improvisation showed a great familiarity with the fretboard. There were barely any wrong notes. Having spent the summer practising my guitar I know how difficult it is to play perfectly in one take. However, your playing settled in and improved as the track went on.
In the second piece (for those who haven't heard it, the same as the first with distortion) I thought the distorted guitar was too upfront and agressive. It sounded like a collaboration between Nigel Tuffnel and Brian Eno  With the high gain it inevitably introduced some unwanted string noise. Try a warm tube crunch tone at the beginning, then you could vary it to become more distorted as the backing develops. I thought the playing was more accomplished in the second piece
Keep at it. I'd like to hear more of your guitar playing. You inspired me to go and get that acoustic guitar I was thinking about!
