It's extremely hard for me to choose between Orabidoo and the title track. I'll have to go for the title track. It's not like any song I have ever heard, and those two little soaring guitar solos just blow me away.

Taurus 2 for the lovely wide range of styles on display, together with a real joy, expressed through the performance of the group as a whole. They really sound as though they are having fun.

My sentiments too T4.  Closely followed by Mount Teide then Orabidoo. Not sure about the elecronic voice on Orabidoo, perhaps I'll have to dig the CD out again and have another listen  :).

Ah, the singing mosquito. I'd have rather heard an excellent unaltered vocal by Maggie Reilly or someone like that instead.

Yes - I adored Maggie's voice. She complimented Mike's music perfectly; both the shorter pop songs and the longer tracks which she contributed to from time to time. I miss her involvement.

Sir M pretty much summed up my thoughts, apart from I like Mount Teidi just slightly more than Five Miles Out. I can't get Orabidoo, or Taurus II. I have tried to listen to it all, and apart from 'The Deep Deep Sound' I can't say it sets me on fire.

But give it a few more years. Maybe I'll come to appreciate it more.

I thought that the electronicly aided voice was cutesy, in a good way. To me alot of Orabidoo sounds like a lullaby notably the twinkling sounds at the beggining!  :)

I liked the Orabi, Orabi bee baa, ORABI BA BEEE!

The backing vocals to the electronic part are particularly special

Taurus II is the central piece of the album, with the highest importance...

1. Family Man
2. Five Miles Out
3. Taurus II
4. Mount Teide
5. Orabidoo

My favorite is Family Man. Very funky. I hate the Hall and Oates version of this track. In the wrong key and different lyrics. Does anybody know why Hall and Oates changed the lyrics?

what an album,

i love all the tracks and voted for orabidoo, hearing this one and taurus 2 sometimes puts me in a very special mood - would call it a very spiritual mood, that makes me feel very satisfied.

Am I the only one who feels that Mount Teidi is the least interesting track on the album? It tries to hard to be grand towards the end. I don't like the drum rolls and all that. It's not a bad track, but my least favorite.

Every single track on Five Miles Out is excellent. It would be one of the rare albums (from any artist) that I'd love 100% from beginning to end, if not for my mixed feelings about "Family Man". I think I've stated elsewhere that remakes don't ruin the originals for me, but I admit that I shudder at the memory of Hall & Oates. I'm working on overcoming that personal demon.
